Netflix unveils the first-look images of Spike Spiegel, Faye Valentine and Jet Black in the live-action series adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. The original anime has been celebrated as one of the greatest of the genre and credited with helping introduce Western audiences to anime. Cowboy Bebop originally ran for 26 episodes and centered on a group of bounty hunters journeying around the galaxy on the titular spaceship in the year 2071.

The live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop has been in the works since 2017 when Tomorrow Studios and Sunrise Inc., original producer of the anime, announced they would be teaming for the project with Christopher Yost set to write. Following Netflix's acquisition of the series in 2018, casting got underway with John Cho, Daniella Pineda, Mustafa Shakir and Alex Hassell set as the leads. Though running into some speed bumps with Cho suffering an injury during production and the COVID-19 shutdown, Cowboy Bebop continued shooting in September in New Zealand and officially wrapped in March and now Netflix is offering an exciting new revelation for the series.

Given the past track record for live-action anime adaptations, namely that of Sony's Ghost in the Shell, many have expressed fair skepticism at the notion of the Cowboy Bebop series. However, the efforts taken thus far from Netflix to keep the adaptation as authentic as possible, including bringing Kanno back alongside original series director Shinichirō Watanabe as a creative consultant, has certainly built some anticipation from longtime fans the project could be a happy surprise. The first images for Cowboy Bebop should definitely create a better sense of excitement for the upcoming series.

In addition to accurately translating the costume designs of the characters, the images for the set of the Cowboy Bebop tease an impressive practical recreation of the ship and its central common room. Though the writers have teased an expansion of the source anime, the images have also confirmed the series will properly adapt the emotional stories of "Ballad of Fallen Angels" and Spike's hard-hitting introduction in the pilot, "Asteroid Blues." The long wait for the arrival of Cowboy Bebop is nearly over as the series is set to premiere on Netflix on November 19.
