Courtney Cox, star of the acclaimed sitcom Friends, has attempted to recreate the turkey head scene from one of the series’ most memorable episodes. Cox, who played Monica Geller in all ten seasons of Friends, has recently been involved with a highly anticipated Friends reunion, due to take place in March of 2021.

In the meantime, Cox has also been hard at work as Gale Weathers in yet another highly anticipated project: Scream 5. The Friends star has become a familiar face to fans of that venerable horror franchise as well, though it’s clear that Monica’s pop-cultural impact is far greater than that of Weathers. Friends was an instant sensation and continues to be one of the few 1990s sitcoms that maintains a solid international fanbase. The series launched Cox’s career in a big way, with fans effortlessly able to list her character’s numerous standout episodes throughout the sitcom’s ten season run. However, of all the episodes Monica is remembered for, one of the single most renowned moments came in the fifth season, when she put a very large turkey on her head to try to cheer Chandler up.

It’s been twenty-two years since Monica’s turkey stunt first aired, which means that with all the recent talk of reunions, it’s time for it to happen again. Seeing a now 56-year-old Cox legitimately trying to cram a real turkey on to her head is not an easy thing to forget. But whether you’re a Friends fan or not, footage of the event can be viewed courtesy of journalist Kris Pangilinan’s Twitter account and kind of demands to be seen.

Part of the reason why Monica’s turkey head scene is such a memorable Friends moment is that it’s the first time Chandler reveals that he loves Monica. As all fans of the series are well aware, Chandler and Monica end up getting married, but in the initial seasons, they are nothing more than friends. Their relationship marked a definite turning point for Friends, one that some love and others consider to be a "jumping the shark" moment. Regardless of opinions on how well the sitcom aged, Monica wearing a large turkey on her head, complete with oversized sunglasses and a fez, is classic comedy for so many.

True, watching Cox struggle with and ultimately fail to wear a turkey carcass on her head will gross plenty of people out. The turkey head in the Friends episode was clearly a prop, whereas the one Cox is working with in the recent video is very real. Yet, despite this unsavory aspect, it’s hard not to give Cox a thumbs up for the effort, which couldn’t have been a pleasant experience. Hopefully, this incident will be mentioned by the other Friends cast members when the upcoming reunion finally goes ahead.
