Is the movie adaptation of Sarah J. Maas’ A Court Of Thorns And Roses book series still happening? Young adult novelist Sarah J. Maas rose to fame with her debut fantasy book series Throne Of Glass. She followed up her first foray into the literary world with a second fantasy series titled A Court Of Thorns And Roses which Bloomsbury began publishing in 2015.

Like Throne Of Glass before it, A Court Of Thorns And Roses is a female-led and fairytale-inspired series that counts classic fables like Beauty And The Beast and Tam Lin among its influences. The books follow a 19-year-old huntress named Feyre Archeron who after killing a magical wolf is spirited away from her mortal realm to the faerie land of Prythian where she must face retribution for the act. In Prythian, Feyre discovers everything she thought she knew about the faerie world was a lie and embarks on a quest to save Prythian from the nefarious forces that loom over the land.

Back in November 2015 – just a few months after the first Court Of Thorns And Roses book was published – news broke a movie adaptation of the fantasy novel was in the works with British production company Tempo Productions (Grabbers) helming the project. That was quite some time ago, so is the Court Of Thorns And Roses movie still happening?

Fans got a long-awaited update on the status of the Court Of Thorns And Roses movie in March 2018 when reports emerged Tempo Productions had hired British writer Rachel Hirons to pen the screenplay. Hirons’ previous work includes co-writing and co-producing Netflix cyber-thriller Kiss Me First and directing and writing her debut film A Guide To Second Date Sex.

It was also reported Tempo Productions would be teaming with German production company Constantin Film to bring A Court Of Thorns And Roses to the big screen. Constantin Film brings a lot of experience to the table, having previously produced two adaptations based on Cassandra Clare’s young adult book series The Mortal Instruments – Harold Zwart’s 2013 film The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones and Freeform supernatural drama Shadowhunters.

The Court Of Thorns And Roses Movie Is Still In Development

Although Sarah J. Maas posted a picture of Rachel Hirons’ script on Instagram back in March 2018, there haven’t been any further updates on the Court Of Thorns And Roses movie since. However, according to IMDb, the film is still in development so it would seem Tempo Productions and Constantin Film are hard at work behind-the-scenes making the movie happen. While fans await the arrival of the movie adaptation of A Court Of Thorns And Roses, there’s something to look forward to in the meantime with Sarah J. Maas’ fifth book in the series A Court Of Silver Flames due to be published in early 2021.
