The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy is the self-named trilogy of movies by Edgar Wright, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. The movies are not connected in any way outside of the creators, but they share the trait of being relationship comedies smuggled in as genre movies. The movies are also named after flavors of the ice cream, with the colors based on the genre of the film.
It started with Shaun of the Dead in 2004, with red ice cream based on blood, and then Hot Fuzz in 2007, with blue ice cream to represent the police, and finally The World's End, with green ice cream based on sci-fi. With these movies come amazing characters, and here is a look at the MBTI traits of the main characters.
ISTJ - NICHOLAS ANGEL
Simon Pegg starred as Nicholas Angel in Hot Fuzz, a supercop and the best in London. However, since he was so good, he was making everyone else look bad, so his superiors sent him to become a lieutenant in a small country village, Sandford.
As for his MBTI trait, Angel is an ISTJ, a Logistician. He is the Batman of the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy: someone who sees things logically and practically and needs to put the clues together to solve crimes. His judgment cannot be questioned, although, by the end, he opens up and becomes a little more human.
ENFP - DANNY BUTTERMAN
Angel's partner at the Sandford PD is Danny Butterman, who is the yin to Nicholas' yang. While Angel is someone who needs to see things in a fact-minded manner, Danny is someone with stars in his eyes who goes with his gut instinct but often misses out on clues and remains oblivious.
Danny learned everything he needed to know about police work by watching movies like Point Break and Bad Boys 2. As for the MBTI, Danny is an ENFP. He is an outgoing and friendly guy who is enthusiastic and sociable, and he always has a reason to smile and visit the local pub.
ESTJ - SIMON SKINNER
Timothy Dalton appeared as one of the principal antagonists in Hot Fuzz, the owner of the local supermarket, who is also a key leader in the Neighborhood Watch Alliance (NWA). The former James Bond is suave and charismatic but holds an evil under his smile that is impossible to miss.
Simon Skinner's MBTI trait is the ESTJ: the Executive. Of course, he is the manager of the Neighborhood Watch Alliance, someone who has employees who follow his every order without question. He also seems to be the man who comes up with the plans needed to allow the NWA to keep their hold on the village.
ENTJ - FRANK BUTTERMAN
While Simon Skinner was the key antagonist in Hot Fuzz, there were a lot of villains that Nicholas Angel had to overcome, and the one that seemed to hit the hardest was Frank Butterman. This was because he was the police Inspector in Sandford, and his betrayal changed everything Angel believed in.
Frank is an ENTJ on the MBTI trait chart: the Commander. He is an extrovert who is able to gather people around him and lead them into action. He is a strong-willed leader who can make his own way, even if that way is one that leaves a mountain of dead bodies in his wake.
ISFP - GARY KING
If Simon Pegg's Nicholas Angel was the top cop and the most put-together man in all London, his character from The World's End was the polar opposite. In the third movie of the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy, Angel portrayed Gary King, a 40-year-old alcoholic who is basically a manchild.
The World's End starts when Gary gets all his friends from his youth back together to complete a pub crawl from their younger years, only to find himself in the middle of an alien invasion. Gary is a charming, yet self-destructive loser, but he is also someone who wants and needs adventure in his life, making him an ISFP.
INTJ - ANDY KNIGHTLEY
Much like Simon Pegg, Nick Frost is able to take his character in The World's End and deliver a performance as different from Hot Fuzz as you can get. In The World's End, Frost is Andy Knightley, an old friend of Gary who has his life together. He is also most uncomfortable in the pub crawl since he no longer drinks.
In the MBTI traits, Andy is the INTJ: the Architect. He is an imaginative and strategic thinker. This helps since, while he is suckered into something he wants no part of, his reasoning and planning help him and Gary survive.
ISFJ - SHAUN
The movie that started it all for the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy was Shaun of the Dead. This is a zombie-comedy, one that shows a world living like they are zombies to begin with, which makes it hard for any of them to realize the real zombie apocalypse has already started.
Shaun is the ISFJ in the MBTI trait chart: the Defender. While he is unliked by his co-workers, doesn't get along with his stepfather, and lost his girlfriend, he is still someone who will stand up and protect everyone he loves—or at least get back to his ex-girlfriend to try for another chance during the end of days.
INFP - ED
Shaun's best friend in Shaun of the Dead is Ed, who is an interesting mix of other Nick Frost characters. He is a slacker like Danny in Hot Fuzz but has a terrible attitude, more like Pegg's character of Gary in The World's End. However, he is also someone who will stand by Shaun until the end.
As for the MBTI traits, Ed is an INFP: the Mediator. He is someone who would rather be playing video games than leaving the house, but when it comes to killing the little old lady zombie in the backyard, he is more than willing to throw his prized record albums at her.
ISTJ - PHILIP
There are always familiar faces in Edgar Wright movies, and one that pops up more than once in the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy is the legendary Bill Nighy. In Hot Fuzz, he is the Chief Inspector who sends Nicholas Angel to Sandford. In The World's End, he is the voice of The Network.
In Shaun of the Dead, he is Shaun's stepdad, Philip. While it seems like he is always out to get Shaun, it turned out by the end that he just wanted to help his stepson. When it comes to his MBTI, Philip is an ISTJ, the Logistician: someone who is fact-minded and practical and sticks to his beliefs of what is better for Shaun's future and life.
ISTP - LIZ
The entire reason Shaun cares about battling zombies in Shaun of the Dead is so he can get back to his ex-girlfriend Liz and make things up to her. He just wants to win her back over and prove that he can be a good boyfriend and will kill as many zombies as possible to rescue her and prove himself.
For her part, Liz is not impressed but still has feelings for him, so he is lucky she gives him a chance at all. When it comes to MBTI, Liz is an ISTP, someone who is bold and practical. She proves this as she is able to hold her own in the zombie apocalypse, but this is also one big reason she was so incompatible to Shaun's forgetful and irresponsible slacker.
