With the recent early access release of Core, Epic Games' new free-to-play content creator, aims at players who want to create different games and experiences using the Unreal engine. Players have already created golf courses, shooters, and puzzles all for free and open to players who want to play them.

Not only are there tools for creating cool games and worlds, but also tools to help customize a unique-looking character in a world full of avatars. Here are some ways to help customize a character and make them stand out in Core.

Customizing a Character in Core

Core Character Creator

The first thing to do when customizing a character in Core is to verify the email address you used to set up an account. Doing this will unlock two legendary skins for players that are otherwise unavailable unless spending real money. So a simple email verification will net you two legendary skins before you even start playing the game. There's a slot for the upper body, lower body, helmet, and back so try out different combinations to see what works and what doesn't! Simply exit to the main interface, head over to my collection, scroll over to mounts and check out what's available to use. Doing different quests will level a character up and unlock different cosmetics along the way as well.

The next part of customization available at launch right now are mounts and emotes. Just like customizing a character's looks, players can also ride different mounts and express different emotes when wandering the social hub space. From horses to hoverboards and even pirate ships, there are plenty of ways to look different when traveling around with friends waiting to play a game. Again, exit to the main interface, head over to my collection, scroll over to mounts and check out what's available to use.

Looking good doesn't mean anything if there aren't ways to celebrate it! With over 20,000 user-created games already available, players need ways to show off when they win or lose. Love them or hate them, Fortnite has popularized emotes in video games like no other game before, so it makes sense that Epic would transfer that success to their new IP. There aren't any worthwhile emotes yet with most of them being basic like crying, cheering, or laughing but following the success of Fortnite that's bound to change in the near future. To equip new emotes, exit to the main interface and then hit my collection and under the tab Mounts there are the emotes that are available for use.

These are all ways to customize a character without spending any money. There is an option, however, to purchase "core credits' with real cash and an in-game shop that includes different bundles, a founders pack, and a featured catalog showcasing the best skins the game has to offer. Any legendary skin or mount is going to cost around $20 to purchase and the rest coming in between $1-$15 depending on what bundles are in the shop that day.

While Epic Games has focused on creating ultra-realistic-looking characters within its software, this is another one of their game that focuses on the opposite side of realism, focusing more on cartoony graphics and fun aesthetics aimed at cooler-looking skins and emotes. While you might not be able to customize a character to the lengths of Fortnite, these are certainly some ways to help customize a character in Core.
