The newest earnings report from Remedy Entertainment divulges that a sequel for Control is currently in the "early conception phase" of development. Remedy previously revealed plans to pursue a "bigger-budget" Control sequel with the first game's publisher, 505 Games. However, the terms of such a deal at the time hadn't yet been fully agreed upon.
A single-player follow-up isn't the only thing on the cards for the expansion of the supernatural universe, either. In late June, Remedy told investors about a project codenamed Condor, a multiplayer-focused Control spinoff. Along with 505 Games, the Finnish development studio will co-publish the title, which will take the form of a four-player PvE experience. For now, further details regarding Condor remain under lock and key. The same holds true for the next single-player entry, but the team has let loose another small nugget of noteworthy information.
In its half-year review for the period beginning January 1 and ending June 30, Remedy confirmed to investors that development on the Condor multiplayer project continues. The studio additionally revealed that its previously teased "bigger-budget" sequel to Control currently sits in the "early conception phase." Thus, it would appear the title is moving full steam ahead, which should come as no surprise since Remedy's report logs the player count for Control at over 10 million. Because Control Ultimate Edition hit Google Stadia on July 27, after the reporting period, it's possible the number of players has climbed even higher.
The update about Control's player count doesn't specify how many were gained through sales. In fact, the last sales update made the rounds in March 2021 when Remedy unveiled an impressive two million units sold for the paranormal thriller. Control's appearance on PlayStation Plus, Xbox Game Pass, and Epic Games Store's Mega Sale 2021 as a free download helped grow the audience immensely. Hopefully, this level of interest resurges once the studio is ready to formally unveil the sequel, something that may not happen for at least a few years.
