A new work of fan art envisions Eiza Gonzalez as the titular lead of a Zatanna movie - and also brings back Constantine's Keanu Reeves for the imagined DCEU adventure. Created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, Zatanna Zatara made her debut in Hawkman #4 back in 1964. Originally a mere stage magician, she discovered her actual magical powers following the disappearance of her father: the DC's Golden Age hero, Giovanni 'John' Zatara. Following in his footsteps, Zatanna became a hero in her own right - adopting a variation on his costume and often aligning with such teams as the Justice League and the soon-to-be-adapted Justice League Dark.

Due to a mutual retcon of their pasts, Zatanna shares a close friendship with Bruce Wayne (aka Batman). However, her most popular dynamic is that of her recurring relationship with fellow magician John Constantine. After debuting in 1985's The Saga of Swamp Thing #37, the character received his own solo title as a Vertigo imprint. His relationship with Zatanna helped to cross the steams and bring him frequently into the main DC Comics continuities. Reeves played the role in the 2005 cinematic outing. The film was widely slammed by critics and only enjoyed a modest return at the box office. However, in the years since and with the uncovering of Constantine's range of extremely subtle details, the film has been widely reappraised and become something of a cult favorite.

A new piece from the popular digital artist, Bosslogic, has now crossed streams in a similar fashion. Referred to as a "quick mock up", the stunningly realized image depicts Gonzalez as Zatanna in full costume. Using her powers to levitate, she is also surrounded by an array of items belying her showmanship and skills as a stage magician. As if that wasn't enough, Bosslogic also included an image of Reeves' Constantine in the background alongside her - emulating the imagery of a rom-com poster. That design is only further emphasized with the appearance of a rose sticking colorfully out from the otherwise emphasized blacks and whites of the poster. Check it out below:

Bosslogic believes that "she would shine" in the role, having "wanted her as a few characters over the years". Based on the comments beneath his post, it would appear that many people agree with his assessment. There is, however, also some firm disagreement - with many having their own ideas for who should play Zatanna. As well as Jamil's aforementioned interest, such names as Alexandra Daddario and Knives Out's Ana de Armas have often been linked to the role. Gonzalez has, in recent years, proven herself worthwhile to be in contention, however. After first coming to more widespread prominence in Baby Driver, she went on to portray the mysterious thief known as Madame M in Hobbs & Shaw. Among her upcoming roles will be an as-yet-unnamed character in the upcoming monster movie Godzilla vs. Kong.

Reeves previously expressed a desire to play Constantine again. In recent times, rumors have emerged that he might even be in the running to do so. He isn't the only version of Constantine out there, however. Matt Ryan played John Constantine on a short-lived NBC series and for multiple seasons on Legends of Tomorrow. Ryan even recently expressed interest in seeing his Constantine cross paths with Zatanna. Whomever fans deem to be the quintessential Constantine - or desire to see play Zatanna - one thing is for sure: the new piece of art will only increase the debate and eagerness for a Zatanna movie set within the DCEU.
