After winning his base of operations in a card game, DC's John Constantine has been the owner of  DC's "House of Mystery" for years. But as the famous saying goes, 'with great power comes great responsibility.' So when the magician proves himself to be unworthy... the future home of Justice League Dark chooses another owner.

In Forever Evil: Blight, the Justice League Dark is burdened with having to eliminate the manifestation of all of humanity's evil known as Blight. In the process, Felix Faust- a magic-wielding super villain harnesses all of the magical secrets of the world as well as the magic of the Justice League Dark to eliminate all the evil threats in the universe so he can be the supreme leader. But before he can complete his plan, Faust is knocked out by Constantine and he decides that maybe he should harness the magical secrets of the world and use them for good. But there is a cost to everything and in the process of saving the world, Constantine will have to sacrifice himself. Zatanna tries to stop him at first, but then she realizes she has never been more proud of Constantine, a man who has spent his whole life serving himself is finally trying to put others first. When Constantine harnesses and unleashes a blast of energy, he lies dead on the ground. The Justice League Dark begin to mourn for the loss of Constantine, but not for long... because it turns out it's not him after all.

The being the Justice League Dark believes is Constantine is actually a materialized psychism- which is a desire that takes form in the material world. In the end, the real Constantine is still alive and Zatanna realizes he will only ever serve himself. Soon, the Spirits of Nanda Parabet awaken and force the Justice League Dark into another dimension, one that is about to kill them and Constantine teleports to save himself. Even though Zatanna knows its dangerous and life-threatening to teleport out of the dimension and to a safe place, she does it anyways and saves the team from annihilation.

When Zatanna returns to the House of Mystery, she finds Constantine bathing and enjoying some R&R. Because she is furious at the fact he is willing to let her and the rest of the team die inside the life-threatening dimension, she fights him and throws him against the walls of the house. To prevent her from hurting him anymore, he tries to reason with her by saying the House of Mystery will protect him if she doesn't stop. But to his surprise, the House refuses to help him. Instead, because he is so conceited, the House of Mystery chooses Zatanna over him. After realizing that the House of Mystery no longer wants him to be the owner, he leaves... never looking back.
