Next week, The Conners' season 3 finale will finally bring back a former series regular: Maya Lynne Robinson. The Roseanne spin-off has had quite the third season covering the coronavirus pandemic and the financial hardships that have struck American blue collar families. Despite being a sitcom, The Conners has never been one to shy away from hard-hitting topics, and recent episodes have seen Becky (Lecy Goranson) suffer a relapse in her alcoholism and the death of Darlene's (Sara Gilbert) former rival Molly (Danielle Harris). However, with season 3 coming to an end, things might lighten up.
Robinson plays Geena, wife to DJ Conner (Michael Fishman) and mom to their daughter. Geena's roots within this world actually stretch back to Roseanne, though she was played by Rae'Ven Larrymore Kelly back then. Robinson landed the role when it was recast for The Conners and was a series regular back in season 1. However, she later departed the show before season 2 due to a new role on CBS' The Unicorn. To explain her absence, Geena was redeployed to Afghanistan. Robinson hasn't returned to The Conners since her exit, but that looks to change with the final episode of season 3.
According to TVLine, Robinson will appear in The Conners' season finale, which premieres on Wednesday, May 19 at 9/8c. Geena will return home to Lanford and reunite with DJ and their daughter Mary (Jayden Rey). It's said that while there, Geena will make some life-changing decisions that will affect all three of them. The site also included some pictures of Geena's homecoming, which can be seen down below.
Exactly what those "life-changing decisions" entail remains to be seen, but it could be that Geena is leaving the military behind for good. This could pave the way for Robinson to return to The Conners for a longer period of time, though that is dependent on her role on the still-unrenewed The Unicorn. Additionally, The Conners is still awaiting word on season 4, though all signs have so far pointed to it scoring a renewal sometime soon. Should the series continue, Robinson could stick around.
At the same time, it could also be that DJ and Mary will make their exits to move somewhere with Geena. That route could make for a more emotional finale, but it would also at least ensure this family sticks together. Right now everything is up for speculation. Luckily, there's only one week to go before The Conners season 3 comes to an end, so fans won't be stuck waiting in anticipation for too long. Regardless of how the storyline ends, it will be nice to see Robinson back on the show to help close out the season.
