The Conjuring star Patrick Wilson has revealed what he would ask the real Ed Warren, should he be given the chance to communicate with the famous paranormal investigator. The 47-year-old actor has played the character in the hit horror saga beginning with the first movie in 2013 and its 2016 sequel. Fans of the supernatural franchise will see Wilson reprise his role in the upcoming The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

As the eighth installment in the Conjuring cinematic universe, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It explores one of Ed and Lorraine Warren's most chilling paranormal cases. The husband-and-wife duo investigates the shocking murder of a young boy, whose killer had claimed demonic possession in defense of the crime. Vera Farmiga also reprises her role as Lorraine Warren. The movie was originally slated to be released last year, but was postponed due to the pandemic. It is now scheduled to hit theaters on June 4 and will have a month-long simultaneous streaming on HBO Max.

In an interview with ComicBookWilson revealed that it would be an exciting experience to connect with Ed Warren. Because the paranormal expert passed away years before The Conjuring was being developed, Wilson never had the chance to meet him in person. However, the actor did not discount a supernatural encounter. According to Wilson, it would be like meeting his favorite rockstar. He imagined asking the demonologist about mundane things, such as if he ever carried a knife in his pocket.

I just look at everything like right in front of me. I don't think about, 'Oh, if I only had the chance.' I think I would be so nervous at this point, because I feel like I'm crafted my own version of him in my head. That I wouldn't want him to screw up. It's like when you meet a rock star, you're like, 'I wanna meet you, but I kind of don't cause you may totally blow it for me.' No, that would be super fun. I would love to just drill him about the smallest little things that no one would ever notice. Like, 'I always carried a knife in my pocket,' or something like that. Which he probably did, actually, now that I really think about it. He seems like one of those guys.

The Conjuring_ The Devil Made Me Do It

Ed Warren died in 2006 at the age of 72. His wife Lorraine was still alive when The Conjuring was released in 2013, so both Wilson and Farmiga did get to meet her. She passed away in 2019. According to Wilson, it's a different kind of challenge to honor these real-life figures in the films. The Conjuring saga succeeds not just in depicting horrifying stories of demonic possessions, but also in their emphasis on the Warrens' relationship and accomplishments.

The Warrens' legacy has inspired powerful stories and an entire Conjuring cinematic universe built around it. Aside from the mainline film series, there are three movies about the infamous Annabelle doll: Annabelle (2014), Annabelle: Creation (2017), and Annabelle Comes Home (2019)The franchise also includes 2018's The Nun and another sequel in development. While the success of these horror movies prove that audiences love a good scare, it is the actors' work that humanizes their characters in a way that viewers would want to know more about them. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It adds another layer to the Warrens' story and will no doubt secure Wilson's reputation as Hollywood's scream king.
