Netflix has released the official trailer for Concrete Cowboy. Based on the YA novel, Ghetto Cowboy, by G. Neri, the coming-of-age drama stars Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things) as Cole, a fifteen year-old boy sent to live with his estranged, urban-cowboy father, portrayed by Idris Elba (Luther, The Wire). The real-life Fletcher Street Stables, a Black horsemanship community in Philadelphia, serves as inspiration for both the novel and the film.

Now, Netflix has released the official trailer for Concrete Cowboy after the film debuted at TIFF last September. The trailer primarily depicts Cole's difficulty adapting to the subculture of the urban cowboys of North Philly, a lifestyle that his father sometimes seems to care about more than the son who just re-entered his life. It also provides closer looks at the film's impressive ensemble of largely Black talent, which includes Jharrel Jerome (Moonlight), Lorraine Toussaint (Orange is the New Black), and rapper/actor, Clifford "Method Man" Smith (Keanu). The film also marks the full-length directorial debut of Ricky Staub, whose short film, The Cage, won the grand prize at the 2017 Heartland International Film Festival. In a 2018 interview with Philadelphia Magazine, Staub details how once-and-always sexiest man alive, Elba, came on board to produce and co-star in his film as part of a conscious effort by The Suicide Squad actor to appear in more projects that galvanize the African American community. Concrete Cowboy and its powerful story of family, both chosen and unchosen, should mark progress towards Elba's goal when it arrives on Netflix on April 2nd.
