Will Ferrell has since revealed he loved going to Late Night With Conan O'Brien - which was known for its more wacky and outlandish tone compared to other late night talk shows - because he was able to do whatever he wanted. This is seen in one sketch where he's being interviewed as himself because nervously attempting some standup; his lame routine leads to him being heckled by a douchy audience member who is also played by Ferrell. One of the best was "Scrub-A-Dub" from 1997, where the actor plays the Mr. Clean-style mascot.

After performing a commercial on Late Night With Conan O'Brien, Scrub-A-Dub then refuses to leave. He interrupts a segment on actors who look like animals - Keanu Reeves looks like a fruit bat, apparently - with lewd comments, tries to spraypaint a swear word on the set and is caught engaging in spicy activities with an audience member played by Amy Poehler. In addition to being a jerk, Scrub-A-Dub gets angrier and angrier every time Conan confronts him about his behavior, resulting in a fistfight between the pair.

Late Night With Conan O'Brien's "Scrub-A-Dub" skit is ridiculous from the off, but it works thanks to Will Ferrell's commitment and Conan playing it straight. The two would reminisce about the sketch on podcast Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend, revealing "Scrub-A-Dub" was a rejected SNL skit written by Adam McKay (Vice) that they decided to recycle it for Conan. SNL producer Lorne Michaels was less than pleased when he found out and gave Conan and Ferrell a stern talking to about taking material without permission.
