Players will need to complete a Sideways encounter in Fortnite Season 8. The Sideways is a new location that made its debut at the end of Season 7. Similar to Abductors in Season 7, Sideways Anomalies appear over several, random Named Locations in Fortnite Season 8. To find it, players will need to enter one of the three purple diamonds that appear on the map. Upon entering one, players will be placed in an alternate version of the Named Location it has taken over. Cube Monsters will wander about and are extremely dangerous to interact with.

Players will need to complete several Character Quests within this location for XP towards their Battle Pass. The most difficult of these challenges has players "Complete a Sideways Encounter." This challenge is provided by Torin, a new character introduced in Season 8. In order to unlock it, players will need to speak with Torin on the map to begin their questline. She can be found wandering in the purple fields to the west of Corny Crops.

Players will need to get comfortable with the Sideways since all of Torin's Punch Card quests require different tasks within it. The quests include:

  • Enter the Sideways: 12k XP.
  • Collect a Sideways weapon: 14k XP.
  • Deal 100 damage to players with a Sideways weapon: 16k XP.
  • Eliminate 10 cube monsters in The Sideways: 18k XP.
  • Complete a Sideways encounter: 20k XP.

It's also important to mention that Epic Games might have this location disabled due to potential glitches, meaning that players cannot complete these challenges until this error is fixed. After clearing out the first four quests, players should loot around the area to gather weapons and shields for the final quest, the Sideways Encounter.

How To Complete a Sideways Encounter in Fortnite Season 8

Weapons from Chapter 2 of Season 8 in Fornite game.

Players will need a lot of firepower in order to complete a Sideways Encounter in Fortnite Season 8. This is because completing the encounter requires players to defeat every wave of enemies within the Sideways anomaly. Once the player enters the Sideways, they will receive a bar on the top of their screen with three different reward markers. Players will need to defeat as many Cube Monsters as possible to fill up this bar. In addition to worrying about the Cube Monsters, if players take too long to complete the encounter, the Sideways anomaly will close on them.

Players should aim to have hundreds of building materials, dozens of different ammo types, Shotguns, Snipers, and Assault Rifles during the encounter. This is a tall order, but opponents may also join the fray, meaning players need to be prepared for anything. This is what makes the Sideways encounter quest the most difficult on Torin's list. To make it a bit easier, players can jump into Team Rumble, as this game mode allows players to respawn after they die.

To extend the timer on the Sideways Encounter in Fortnite Season 8, players should focus on killing the smaller Cube Monsters first. They will shoot out toxic smoke if players get too close, but they go down the fastest. Players can also try to complete this challenge with friends to make it easier and ensure everyone completes it.
