Divinity Original Sin 2 has a diverse cast of characters to control and recruit. Some seek to better their homelands, seek vengeance, or solve the mysteries of the world. However, not every party member can complete the journey and compromises will be made along the way. Still, those heroes that make it to the endgame will be rewarded with power and glory.

The six Godwoken companions all have their own goals and ambitions. Lohse has no connections to Rivellon’s politics or the dealing of the church. Instead, she is concerned with the wild spirits, fey, and the eldritch. The party’s actions can help Lohse find peace or bring a new era of destruction.

Lohse is a rather free-spirited minstrel who is haunted by a demon possessing her. She is likely to respond well to jovial choices, while the demon may overtake and attack people important to Sebille, Fane, and Ifan. Fane, or a custom undead, can access an alternate pathway that would kill anyone else. While a companion Lohse will seek ways to free herself of this curse, as a main character she has more options to embrace and work with the demon. Some of her memorable bardic performances only occur as a companion, not when selected as a main avatar. Keep in mind that any character made at the start of the game is given main character status, and cannot be removed or added once within the campaign.

The main character should have high Persuasion to convince NPCs of their position. In many cases, Telekensis can be useful to grab quest items without provoking enemies or guards. Many of Lohse’s storyline foes are demons who have a preference to cast fire magic and have high fire resistance. To counter this it may be wise to bring a water-based mage with Armor of Frost and Rain, or rely on physical damage weapons. Depending on a player’s actions in Reaper’s Coast, demons may be rampant in Arx and appear in surprising locations. This can result in some urgency to protect bystanders with spells like Nether Swap, Uncanny Evasion, and Cryogenic Stasis.

Last, Lohse herself should take a non-critical role in the party, like a damage dealer. Due to her possession at certain times she may be uncontrollable, in a poor strategic position, or even unconscious.

Lohse’s Storyline in Divinity Original Sin 2

The Doctor slays Lohse for betrayal Divinity Original Sin 2

If not already a main character, Lohse can be found in Fort Joy ghetto square overlooking the large alter. She recommends taking the spell casting Enchanter role but is open to any class the party wants.

Chapter 1: Fort Joy

Lohse will seek the elven seer Saheila located in the ghetto’s cavern. Speaking to her will cause the demon to take over Lohse and attack Saheila. The remaining members have a choice of who to side with. The player can kill Saheila, but she can be important to both Sebille and Ifan’s quests. The optimal solution is to wound Lohse until she regains control and comes to her senses.

If Lohse is a main character, head to the Fort Joy ghetto campsite and find the bard Laslor. After a brief conversation he will hand over his lute. This can be upgraded later on in the game. Also around this area is Gawin, who provides a direct path to Lohse’s next objective (though there are several other routes). He will ask you to slay a group of gators that swallowed a pair of teleportation gloves. After obtaining the gloves, Lohse (or any other party member) and Gawin will take turns teleporting each other across a chasm to escape Fort Joy. However, Gawin will betray the party at the final junction and run off, leaving the player with the only option to enter the Fort Joy Dungeon. This will plop them right next to Zillik, who can attempt to expel the demon, but fails. He instead suggests meeting his master Jahan in Reaper’s Coast.

For alternate routes to the dungeon, a party member with high wits can discover a passageway near the crazed Migo at the south of the ghetto. Another option is to play hide and seek with the orphans in the cavern, which will lead to a passage containing old Withermoore. He will explain a mechanism near the square that unlocks a grate to the dungeon.

Chapter 2: Reaper’s Coast

Those that collected Laslor’s lute can bring it to Fingal Boyd near the Paladin Bridgehead. Lohse can make a Persuasion check against the demon to hand the lute to Boyd and have her repair it. Boyd’s fine craftsmanship will give the lute the ability to cast powerful blessed magic. However, doing so will destroy the instrument, making it a onetime use item.

Lohse’s own quest is slightly linked to the main story. She needs to ensure the safety of Malady, which includes finding at least two Source Masters and learning their secrets. The player has a few options around Reaper’s Coast, including Mordus, Hannag, Saheila, Ryker, Almira, the Advocate, or Jahan. As long as at least two of their related quests are completed then Lohse’s own goal will be much easier. After even one of these missions, the party can learn Spirit Vision from Meister Siva which will be an important ability. Note that failing to meet the Source Masters and complete Siva’s rituals can cause Malady to perish at Arx.

Players will want to focus on Jahan, who resides near the Cloisterwood. He will ask the party to slay the Advocate on Bloodmoon Island. While there is a ferryman willing to take people to the island, it is a scam as any living creature will die from the Death Fog polluted water. However, undead, like Fane, will survive just fine. An alternate route is the broken bridge in the Cloisterwood. By casting Spirit Vision, players will see a safe route to cross with jump skills like Cloak and Dagger or Teleport.

On the island, take a slight detour to the northeast and into the hatch. Read the Archivist’s Journal to learn about the Ancestor Tree. In south, the Advocate and his gang are being besieged by Voidwoken. One can either use the chaos to slay him here, or save him and get an added reward of his Source power. If he is kept alive, the Advocate will ask the party to defeat a group of Black Ring members surrounding the Ancestor Tree. Kill them all, and then the Advocate and his members will take their place. In turn, slay the Advocate for Jahan and speak to the tree to learn the identity of the possessing demon: Adramahlihk. Report back to Jahan and he will join the Lady Vengeance crew.

Chapter 3: Nameless Isle

Lohse has no main objectives here, but her presence can cause conflicts. Adramahlihk hates the Black Ring and may force combat against NPCs related to Fane or the Red Prince. As a precaution, keep Lohse far away from the party when speaking with important people.

Chapter 4: Arx

Nemesis demons prowl Arx disguised as humans. If players helped the Advocate, they will be very friendly and provide quest hints. If the Advocate was killed, these demons will expose their true forms and ambush the party in the open streets and public areas.

Malady and Jahan will seek to snuff out Adramahlihk at the Black House in Arx. If alive, Malady will offer up a ritual that will sacrifice many lives to weaken the demon. A companion Lohse always agrees, but as a main character players can decide. Inside the Black House Adramahlihk, in his guise as the Doctor, will offer up a pact to Lohse (or other party members) to share Divinity. Players can choose to agree or attack the demon. Note that betrayal of the contract can cause the Doctor to detonate the participant. If a fight does ensue, it is best to focus all attacks on Adramahlihk and eliminate him quickly. If the battle goes on too long, the demon will fully possess Lohse and remove her from the party. It is also possible to slay most of his minions before the main fight and take on the demon alone.

If the pact is maintained, the Doctor will arrive at the Tomb of Lucian and annihilate opposition like Dallis and Lucian (possibly to the detriment or pleasure of Fane and Ifan). The player then has the choice to share Divinity or renege. The latter will cause that character to permanently die and a final battle with Adramahlihk to start; the former will instead result in the pact maker leaving the party and join Adramahlihk in a final confrontation with their former allies. While the demon and their chosen have the upper hand, it is possible for the underdogs to snatch victory. The ending will depend on which side wins, a particularly interesting situation during a multiplayer campaign.
