The entire World of Warcraft: Shadowlands expansion is full of new content, including new quests, currencies, and game mechanics, allowing players to fully immerse themselves in the afterlife. One of the new game mechanics is the ability for players to craft their own Legendary Armor. These are class-based items that improve a character's stats and make it easier for them to stand against entities like The Jailer and other legends they meet as they progress through the expansion. To unlock Legendary Crafting that allows players to make this enhanced equipment, they will first need to reach Level 60 and join a Covenant. They will also need to complete the first chapter of their Covenant's campaign and make it to Torghast for the first time. There, they will meet the Runecarver, who holds the key to Legendary Crafting.

The Runecarver will give players a few quests to complete before they can unlock Legendary Crafting. First, they will need to collect 1,250 Soul Ash from the layers of Torghast, the endless dungeon in The Maw. With that done, players will also need to complete Ashes of the Tower, another related quest. After completing these two steps, they will receive a quest from the Runecarver called The Final Pieces, which will reward access to Legendary Crafting. In this quest, players must retrieve three items integral to Legendary Crafting: a Rune Vessel base item, two Missives, and a Runecarver Memory. Here's how to complete The Final Pieces quest and unlock Legendary Crafting in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.

How to Complete The Final Pieces Quest in WoW: Shadowlands

The first and likely easiest item for players to find will be Rune Vessels. These are base items that will be transformed into the Legendary Armor piece the character wears into battle. The Rune Vessel will determine if the armor item will be Cloth, Leather, Mail, or Plate and which slot it will fill.

Players who have a character in a crafting profession have the option of making one of these items. They are usually created by Tailors, Leatherworkers, Blacksmiths, and Jewelcrafters. If players have not entered a crafting profession, or have not leveled their profession enough to craft a Rune Vessel item, they will instead need to purchase one from the Auction House. Rune Vessel items will have specific prefixes depending on the material each piece is made from:

  • Cloth: Grim-Veiled
  • Leather: Umbrahide
  • Mail: Boneshatter
  • Plate and Necklaces/Rings: Shadowghast

Players should be prepared to spend some gold to get these items. They should also make sure the item is suitable for their class.

The second thing a player needs are two Missives. These are created by characters in the Inscription profession and determine the two secondary stats the Legendary Armor will include. They have to be different from one another for Legendary Crafting to work. The options are:

  • Missive of Critical Strike
  • Missive of Haste
  • Missive of Mastery
  • Missive of Versatility

This is another item players could craft on their own, if their main or alt characters are in the Inscription profession. Otherwise, they will need to grab the two different Missives they prefer from the Auction House.

Finally, the player will need to find more of the Runecarver's Memories. These are effectively the recipes used to craft Legendary items. They are random drops, so it may take time if players are looking for a specific Legendary recipe. These will often drop from bosses, enemies, and reputation vendors throughout the Shadowlands.

Once the player has one of the Runecarver's Memories, they will need to return to the Runecarver and use the Memory in their inventory while standing near him. This will restore the memory and unlock that crafting recipe.

When players are ready, they can turn the quest in and Legendary Crafting will become available to them. They will need to interact with the Runecarver again to start creating their Legendary Armor. They can use the quest items they gathered from The Final Pieces quest as well, as these are not consumed when the quest is turned in.

As players learn new recipes by restoring the Runecarver's Memories, they can craft different Legendary armor pieces, but only one piece can be worn at a time. In addition, they can bring more Soul Ash to the Runecarver to upgrade their Legendary armor as desired.
