The Community movie is reportedly going to see the return of a beloved fan-favorite season 6 character in the reunion project. After years of demanding and campaigning for it, the NBC comedy, Community, is finally embracing its longtime "#SixSeasonsAndAMovie" mantra. On September 30, Peacock and Sony Pictures TV announced that they had officially greenlit the Community movie with original show creator Dan Harmon coming back to co-write the script. The movie properly going forward comes after years of Harmon and cast members being asked in countless interviews about a Community continuation.

While details are being kept under wraps about the Community movie, a former cast member is possibly making his way back for the reunion film. In TVLine's recent edition of Inside Line, a Community fan inquired if the outlet had any news about the highly anticipated movie. According to TVLine, Keith David, who joined Community back in season 6, had recently chatted with the website, where he was asked potentially reprise the role of Elroy Patashnik in the Peacock-produced movie. Apparently, Elroy may or may not be the character that plays a part in getting the beloved study group together.

"As far as I know, when it happens, I’ll be there. I liked Elroy because he was smart but reclusive, and there are a lot of those kinds of people in the world, whose names you don’t necessarily know but whose work has made a difference in every one of our lives. That’s what I like about him.”

Everything We Know About The Community Movie

Community TV series cast

Thus far, no official release date has been given by Peacock, but the Community movie supposedly arrives sometime in 2023. Harmon, who is also executive producing the movie, is co-writing the screenplay with Wonder Man writer Andrew Guest. Right now, no director has officially signed on to helm the Community movie. That may be a huge reason why no production date has been set yet, nor when the movie will be coming out on Peacock.

Despite the lack of plot details, Peacock has already confirmed several cast members that will be returning for the Community movie. The initial announcement revealed that Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong are all set to reprise the roles of Jeff Winger, Abed Nadir, Annie Edison, Britta Perry, Dean Pelton, and Ben Chang, respectively. Thus far, Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown's Troy Barnes and Shirley Bennett are not attached for the Community film, though Harmon has explained the former's deal was still in the works and that he wouldn't make the movie without the Troy actor.

The fact that Community is finally getting the highly-demanded movie is huge in itself, as it looked like after the season 6 finale that the series was over for good. It probably helped that Community's move to Netflix a few years ago as the series' following got even bigger worldwide. While it will be embracing the infamous "#SixSeasonsAndAMovie" prophecy, the Community film will likely be the perfect way for the series to have a proper conclusion finally. Although depending on how the Community movie performs, if Harmon finds a creative way that could revive the series and if all the cast members are available, anything is possible. But for now, fans can look forward to the Community movie sometime in the near future.
