As the show's name suggests, Dan Harmon's Community takes place in a community college, filled with all sorts of unique characters who enrolled for all kinds of reasons. There's an elderly moist towelette tycoon, an entrepreneurial housewife, and a straight-A student who really should've gone to an Ivy League school. While they all made a lasting impression on the show's fans, not all would make for great friend material in real life.

Most characters in Community have obvious faults, ranging from blatant narcissism to passive-aggressive behaviors. What redeems most of them is how funny they are and the fact that deep down, they all have a good heart.

Ben Chang

At first sight, El Tigre Chino is erratic and completely unstable. But under his delusions of grandeur hides a man who is desperate to be liked. What he wanted most of all is to have a group of friends. Unfortunately, the study group rejected him over and over again.

They had very solid reasons for never letting this unhinged narcissist into their lives, but many fans agree that he's simply too funny and endearing not to be considered when thinking about which character from Community would make it into their personal friend group.

Magnitude

Magnitude shouts Pop Pop

"Pop, pop!", is almost the only line that Magnitude ever utters in the show, but with just those two simple words, he brings more energy in the room than the rest of the people combined.

Those who love to have a good time need only to call this one-man party and they're good to go!

Abed Nadir

The king of Community's meta-moments, Abed arguably struggled with relationships the most, but most fans would nonetheless love to be friends with him. Why? Because Abed is intelligent and according to Britta's personality test from "Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps", also the sanest.

Abed might not understand sarcasm and he sometimes acts as if he's in a TV show (which, technically speaking, he is), but he's also incredibly observational and brutally honest. A friend like Abed would never lie to his friends or try to manipulate them in any way.

Jeff Winger

The narcissistic Jeff Winger didn't always deserve to be in such a great study group. He often lied, thought only of himself, and showed no remorse when hurting someone's feelings. But despite his shortcomings, most fans agree that they would be friends with him.

While he was sometimes reluctant to do something altruistic, he always stepped up for his friends in the end. Many times, he saved the day by giving the group an inspirational speech. After all, he was a natural leader and the study group definitely appreciated his leadership skills.

Craig Pelton

The quirky and optimistic dean of Greendale Community College is a sight for sore eyes. From his flamboyant outfits to his ridiculous dean-inspired puns, Craig Pelton is a gift that keeps on giving.

His obsession with Jeff is a little bit unsettling, but at the same time, completely harmless. Dean Pelton is a kind and funny man who wouldn't hurt a fly.

Elroy Patashnik

Elroy joined the show in season 6 and instantly won over the fan base. Even though he didn't get a lot of screen time, most can agree that they would love to be friends with him in real life. He was funny, smart, and fit right into the study group!

Britta Perry

In season 1, Britta was introduced as an incredibly smart character who saw through the charismatic Jeff right away. But as seasons progressed, she fell victim to brutal Flanderization. She was portrayed as a somewhat dim buzzkill, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't make for an amazing friend.

Britta's heart is in the right place and her positive personality traits far outweigh her negative ones. She always fights for what is right, urges the study group to be compassionate, and stands by their side no matter what. Her anti-establishment beliefs could inspire many to question the status quo.

Shirley Bennet

Many fans found Shirley Bennet annoying since she didn't seem to find her own place in the show for the first few seasons. Realistically speaking, though, fans agree that Shirley would make for a great friend. Not only is she kind and loving, but she's also an amazing baker who loves to share her creations with her friends!

Sometimes, she can be passive-aggressive, guilt-tripping her friends. She's far from being a meek and naive housewife, though. When push comes to shove, Shirley fiercely stands up for herself and her friends.

Annie Edison

The cheerful and ever so organized Annie makes for an amazing friend. Not only because she's reliable, proactive, and ambitious, but also because she always holds people accountable for their actions.

While Annie's lack of spontaneity and obsession with productivity can seem overbearing, she would make for a great addition to any friend group. She's the kind of person who pushes her friends to always do better. And that's why she's one of the most likable Community characters!

Troy Barnes

Almost every fan of the show wholeheartedly agrees that they want to be friends with Troy Barnes. In addition to spitting out funny one-liners all the time, he's kind, funny, and loyal. He's always willing to put his ego aside and do the right thing - even if it's at his own expense.

One time, he joined Britta on stage during a dance recital, even though he was ashamed of being a dancer. And it's impossible to forget the time he sacrificed himself and enrolled into Greendale Air Conditioning Repair School. He truly is the best (repair) man of the entire series!
