Community featured an ensemble cast of larger than life characters, each of which found a place among the study group of misfits. Over the shows 6 seasons, these characters went through a lot, with the hijinks and shenanigans Greendale threw at them making their college experience something they won't forget.

By the time the finale rolled around the show and the study group themselves were different, with characters entering and leaving the show. Some left the show with grace and their characters naturally evolved, while other departures proved to be less satisfying. With this in mind here are 5 characters who got a satisfying ending, and 5 who didn't.

DESERVED MORE: Rachel

Community Brie Larson

Rachel, portrayed by Brie Larson appeared in season 4 and quickly bonded with Abed. After a chance meeting, they found they had a lot in common and the pair began dating. However, after appearing in only a handful of episodes Rachel disappeared from the show and was never seen again.

Despite leaving the series a reason for her departure was never given, and even Abed would go on to question where Rachel went in season 6's "Ladders". All of which is a shame as Rachel would have made a great addition to the study group and her interactions with Abed would have been interesting to witness.

SATISFYING: Dean

Jim Rash as Dean Pelton in Community

Dean Craig Pelton oversees the Community College and his inept style of management is one of the main sources for the strange and surreal situations the students find themselves subject to every week.

But what he lacks in skill and professionalism he more than makes up for with his genuine passion and affection for his job and his students. Because of this, the Dean's lack of growth and change was perfectly suited to the character, and the conclusion of his character was befitting.

DESERVED MORE: Professor Slater

Professor Slater was a prominent character featured throughout season 1, and have a serious relationship with Jeff. However, after their relationship reached its natural conclusion the statistics teacher was never seen again.

However eagle-eyed viewed will notice that in season 2's "Intro to Political Science" Professor Slayer is briefly mentioned on television when a banner at the bottom of the screen mentions she is still missing. What happened to her remains uncertain, but it would be interesting to see what her story is.

SATISFYING: Troy

Troy looked as though he would be with the study group until graduation, however, this was not the case. Instead, the character departed the show in season 5 and was never seen again.

Troy went on the adventure of a lifetime and sailed around the world single-handedly, completing this challenge would reward him with over $14 million. This was left to him by Pierce, and although unconventionally, there's no doubt that this experience would change him forever.

DESERVED MORE: Professor Buzz Hickey

Season 5 saw the study group dynamic shook up in an interesting way, with the departure and introduction of characters. Buzz Hickey was introduced and appeared in 11 out of season 5's 13 episodes, quickly becoming a family face on the show. However, the character faded from the series and was never seen again.

What happened to him, and where he went remained unanswered. The only reference to the character appears in season 6's "Basic Email Security", where an email regarding Buzz Hickey Memorial Services is visible.

SATISFYING: Abed

community-abed-dreamatorioum

Abed's passion for film and television made it difficult for him to connect to people and as a result, he struggled to make friends before finding the study group at Greendale.

It's only fitting then that Abed's passion and dedication to the art of filmmaking resulted in him leaving Greendale to work as a production assistant on a new TV show for the summer. Unlike so many characters Abed found success and has a promising career ahead of him.

DESERVED MORE: Shirley

Shirley Bennett

Shirley acted as a mother to the group and was an irreplaceable character, who had a unique dynamic with every member of the study group. However, Shirley left Greendale at the end of season 5 to care for ill father.

This mirrored Yvette Nicole Brown's real life, who was unable to return to the role for the same reason. Thankfully Shirley did make a couple of appearances throughout the final season, but her absence left a hole that no other character could fill. If a Community movie is ever produced Shirley's inclusion is a must.

SATISFYING: Jeff

Jeff had one of the most dramatic character arcs of any character to appear in the series, Beginning as a sleazy and selfish lawyer, his experiences at Greendale forced him to examine himself and deal with his many personal issues and traumas.

He not only became a better person but became a teacher at the Community College. The unexpected career change suited Jeff well, as his fast-talking ways make him one of the most charismatic people at the college.

DESERVED MORE: Pierce

An image of Chevy Chase as Pierce Hawthorne in Community. He is seen in the canteen, eating his lunch

The behind-the-scenes drama regarding Chevy Chase has been well documented and he departed the show after 4 seasons. Pierce Hawthorne graduated from Greendale after over a decade at the school, only to shortly die shortly after.

His off-screen death proved to be unsatisfying and left his character arc unfinished. There's no doubt that he was the most unlikeable member of the study group, but slowly and surely Pierce was becoming a better person. If the character had featured in the proceeding seasons who knows where he would have ended up.

SATISFYING: Annie

Annie was one of Greendale's brightest students, and if not for her unfortunate breakdown, there's no doubt that she would have gone to one of the best colleges the country had to offer.

Her dedication to studying and learning was almost unrivaled, and so it's satisfying to see that her hard work paid off. At the end of season 6, Annie set off after earning a prestigious internship with none other than the F.B.I.
