It is quite refreshing to see that Community is continuing to grow in popularity -even years later since its completion. This really should not be too surprising to its biggest fans, as this series was truly a masterpiece from the very beginning. The study group was marvelous. Although they were immensely flawed in their own ways, it was impossible not to root for them and their happiness.

However, what would also take this show over the top was its absolutely stellar side characters. Dan Harmon did such a good job with casting these minor roles, to the extent that they would become even more popular than the main cast. They were absolutely a necessity, and quite honestly, could have survived even being main characters.

Leonard

Leonard certainly was a great character in this series. He was quite the jokester, as the audience would often see him make clever quips at everyone. This was especially the case when it came to Jeff, as the two had a bit of rivalry.

Overall, Leonard was a very fun character, as he was quite honestly the perfect old man. Sure, he could be pretty immature most of the time, but he would provide a lot of hilarious moments. His comedic timing was impeccable.

Vice Dean Laybourne

Vice Dean Laybourne was a very solid character for the series. He was the opposite of Dean Pelton as he was very intimidating and a bit evil. His quest to make Troy join the air conditioning repair school was one of the best parts of this series.

It was a shame that he couldn't have been on the show much longer, as he was immensely clever and would deliver some pretty iconic lines. John Goodman was perfect for this powerful role at the end of the day.

Professor Duncan

Professor Duncan was another fan favorite from the series, as John Oliver played this role marvelously. A psychology professor, he would be the reason why Jeff would end up even attending Greendale in the first place as they knew each other previously.

As the show progressed, it became ever so clear that Duncan had a massive drinking problem, which would end up getting him in trouble with the school. He was also seen to engage in a rivalry with Chang, which provided fans with much entertainment. A complex character that was easily a perfect fit in the study group.

Magnitude

Straight from the beginning, Magnitude was shown to be a hit with the fans as his "pop pop" catchphrase quickly caught their attention. He was a very great addition to the series as he was beloved by his classmates because of his positive energy.

He was another example of a side character that should have been utilized far more. However, fans definitely were appreciative whenever he appeared as he never failed to bring upon hardy laughs. Overall, he was just a spectacular recurring role.

Garrett

Garrett's eccentric and strange personality would help him become a fan favorite in time. His weird voice made him funny from the very start, but as the audience would take a closer look at him, they were quickly made aware that he was a bit outlandish too.

In perhaps one of the best episodes from the final season, Garrett would get married. Although it would be revealed that she was his cousin, it was nice to see him have a happy ending. It was difficult not to love this strange guy.

Star-Burns

Star-Burns would end up becoming quite the hit with Community fans from the very beginning. This honestly was not much of a shock, as his signature facial hair allowed him to stand out a lot.

The running gag of him disliking his nickname was hilarious as all he had to do to stop it was shave them. His storylines were also quite hilarious too. A big example of this was when he faked his own death and decided to try to create the first cat-powered vehicle. Overall, he easily was one of the best side characters from this series.

Officer Cackowski

Officer Cackowski was put to work a lot at Greendale, as this campus would face a lot of weird situations. He was perfect for the role though. While he was a pretty tame character for this series, he did have a bit of quirkiness that made people love him more.

Perhaps his most iconic scene was when he used a fake gun to teach Jeff, Annie, and the Dean to take gun control seriously. Also, his clever dialogue would help his value as a character too. Overall, he was just very solid.

Vaughn

When introduced to Vaughn, the audience would learn that he was dating Britta. However, this romance didn't last very long as the study group decided to make fun of him behind his back. Naturally, this led to a breakup between the two - but this necessarily wasn't a bad thing as Vaughn's character significantly improved after this.

Vaughn would write a song about their breakup, which he and Pierce would play in front of the school. "Gettin' Rid of Britta" was hilarious, but also his cocky, yet lovable personality would make him become one of the funniest side characters from the series.

Todd

Although the gang would dislike Todd, he was absolutely hysterical in this series. He remained quite patient with them when they were fighting over who had to be paired with him in their Biology class. However, he would eventually deliver a speech about how awful they were to one another after Britta accidentally set his turtle on fire.

This speech was great, as it was exactly what the audience all would have loved to say to them. He also was hilarious in Garrett's wedding episode, as while officiating it, he would go off on an ill-advised tangent yet again.

Neil

Neil's story was quite sad in the series as he was not only driven to depression because of a weight comment, but he also was Pierce's victim in the D&D episode. Pierce aimed to sabotage all that he accomplished, whilst Neil was extremely upset beforehand.

It was refreshing to see Neil eventually win in this said episode, as he felt better after seeing how miserable of a person Pierce was. His other appearances were also quite impressive as the viewers saw him grow more confident as the seasons went on. He simply was a likable and funny character.
