Glyphs are some of the least-understood props available in Dead By Daylight, likely because they are only part of the match if the player chooses to include them. Glyphs in Dead By Daylight are glowing blue, red, purple, yellow, or white crystals that can appear on a map and are visible to a single player if they have selected the Commune with Glyphs or Locate Glyphs Challenges in their Tome. They are invisible until the player who has selected the challenge approaches it. Interacting with a Glyph can earn players extra Bloodpoints and seasonal progress.

There are now five variants to Glyphs challenges; Glyphs, Red Glyphs, Purple Glyphs, Yellow Glyphs, and White Glyphs. Each Glyph has a different effect and is personal to every player. This means other players cannot interact with a player’s Glyph; however other players can see the Glyph when an interaction occurs. It’s also worth pointing out that only one Glyph spawns per Trial in Dead by Daylight with the selected challenge.

Either Killers or Survivors can complete Glyph Challenges, but certain Glyphs options are only available to either Killers or Survivors. These Glyphs have appeared in Tome VI, and were expanded for Tome VII, VIII, IX, and X. It can be extremely difficult for Killers to interact with Glyphs, given the same button they use for attacking will be used to interact with it. However, it can be rewarding and help with seasonal progression and unlocking exclusive cosmetics. Here's how to Commune with Glyphs in Dead By Daylight.

Interact with Glyphs in Dead By Daylight

Survivors find a Blue Glyph in Dead By Daylight

Before players can interact with a Glyph in Dead By Daylight, they need to activate the challenge in their Tome. When the challenge has been activated, a Glyph will spawn somewhere on the map. Players must get within eight meters of a Glyph for it to appear, first as a floating diamond. It makes an auditory cue like a portal ripping open. As the player approaches, it will grow into a large circle with a symbol on it. Players will want to be careful, as the Glyph will become visible to all players once they interact with it.

To Commune with a Glyph in Dead by Daylight, players must approach it and use their action button. For Survivors, this will be the button they use when using items, like a Medkit or Toolbox. For Killers, it will be one of the two attack buttons. Killers will need to get close enough to the Glyph so the button registers as communing rather than a hit, if not both. To complete the challenge, players will usually have to interact with three Glyphs. Completing this challenge usually rewards Rift Fragments and around 25,000 Bloodpoints.

When a Survivor Communes with a Blue Glyph, they will also receive a penalty. This can either be the Blindness or Oblivious status effect, both of which will last for 60 seconds. This penalty does not apply to other Glyphs when players commune with it.

Players wanting to complete Tome VII: Forsaken in Dead By Daylight will need to complete multiple Glyph Challenges before a certain time, to get all the rewards. Forsaken focuses on survivor William "Bill" Overbeck from the Left 4 Dead chapter, and completing challenges can earn players cosmetic rewards based on and for the character.
