One of the covers for Commanders in Crisis #9 by Steve Orlando and Davide Tinto will be a special Pride Month variant by Tinto. The cover will be in black-and-white except for the rainbow-colored text adorning the top of it. This will be in addition to the numerous other Image Comics variants created in celebration of Pride Month for various series like Fire Power and The Walking Dead Deluxe.

Commanders in Crisis is touted as a new take on a superhero team book. The series is created and written by Orlando, whose work includes DC Comics' Justice League of AmericaSupergirlWonder Woman, and Boom! Studios' Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. The artist for the series is Tinto, who will also be doing the regular cover and Pride Month variant, and his art has previously been featured in Jon Lock Comics' anthology series Afterlife Inc. and Rebellion's 2000AD. The Commanders in Crisis superhero team is comprised of five survivors from destroyed multiverse planets who find a home on Earth, which they must protect.

This is the ninth issue in a twelve-issue limited series, but it is the start of a new story arc. This issue promises a confrontation between Frontier and Originator against Doctor Dracula as they seek to find a way to resurrect empathy. The Extinction Society is also trying to push the world into destruction and the Revenge Regiment is ready to strike. Despite being a new story arc, the description will likely be very confusing to newcomers. Will the series prove to contain one of the best superhero teams ever?

Saying a superhero team book will be unique is a bold move considering how many are out there defining comics. But considering that Commanders in Crisis comes from Image Comics, the publishers of such unique books as Invincible and Saga, as well as coming from creator/writer Orlando, who has experience writing for mainstream superheroes as well as indie books, it sounds like the series is in very good hands. Plus, the assortment of covers not indicated as Pride Month variants but still appearing to be depicting the LGBT+ community is a welcome sight.
