Warning: contains a preview for The Never Ending Party #1!

When it comes to parties, the Greek gods knew a thing or two, and ComiXology will soon have a comic offering centered around a modern take on mythology. Screen Rant is pleased to announce The Never Ending Party - a new comic that focuses on a girl who lost her lover during a cult ritual involving the god of festivity - Dionysus. Slightly more than two decades later, her past will come back to haunt her.

ComiXology has been releasing several new Originals to keep comic fans entertained. From Astonishing Times and Clear to We Have Demons and Love and War, there has been a wide offering of comics from the service. This new title blending mythology with the supernatural will be arriving very soon, from a comic writer that fans of Doom Patrol will be glad to see return to the medium: Rachel Pollack.

The Never Ending Party has the creative team of Rachel Pollack, Joe Corallo, Eva Cabrera, Cons Oroza, Claudia Aguirre, Zakk Saam, Micah Myers, and Noah Sharma. This five issue series will be Pollack's first full-length comic in 25 years, though she has written a few short comic stories the past few years. Check out a preview of this ComiXology Original's first issue and the series' synopsis here:

The Never Ending Party preview 1

Twenty-five years after losing her lover Lulu in a cult ritual for Dionysus gone wrong, Mindy Morrow is trying to live her life and put the past behind her. Unfortunately for Mindy, the past won't let her go. While she's taking care of her friend Flavia, Mindy's frenemy Kate Park is trying to lure her back into the old club scene, while something more ancient and terrifying awaits them all.

The preview above introduces the main character, Mindy, as well as Lulu, her lost lover. It also introduces Kate Park, who was a high priestess for the cult that will seemingly be at the center of Mindy's troubles. Life hasn't panned out positively for Mindy or Flavia's relationships, but a new beginning - and plenty of conflict - seems to lie ahead.

Regarding ComiXology's latest original, The Never Ending Party, writer Rachel Pollack says:

This was great fun to work on. I got to write a Tarot reading heroine, play with how a street smart wild trans woman from the 1990s might look at our current world, and turn the Greek God of ecstasy, Dionysus, into a super-villain who'll destroy the world just to keep the party going! And best of all, co-write a book with Joe Corallo.

Pollack is best known for her Doom Patrol run in the 1990s, which followed Grant Morrison's run. Pollack's run has had huge influence on the Doom Patrol TV show. While this series may be a major departure from superhero comic fare, there will certainly be plenty of villainy and mysticism based on what we know thus far. When it comes to mythology, Ares is typically portrayed as a villain, but Dionysus doesn't tend to get very much spotlight. This ComiXology Original will give him a more prominent, trouble-causing role that isn't often seen, making the series a fun departure from the trends found in recent mythology retellings. The Never Ending Party #1 will release June 7th.
