Led by Eddie Murphy, the Coming 2 America cast also sees the return of several Coming to America actors along with new characters and some exciting cameos. Streaming on Prime Video, the 2021 legacy sequel was directed by Craig Brewer and includes several special appearances from big names in pop culture. In Coming 2 America, Prince Akeem (Murphy) is set to be King of Zamunda but worries about not having a legitimate male heir. Shortly before his father passes away, it's revealed that Akeem actually has a son named Lavelle in Queens, New York — the result of a drunken one-night stand with a woman named Mary Junson.

Hoping to follow proper Zamunda customs, Akeem brings his birth son to Africa and trains him to be a respectable prince but doesn't fully consider how this decision affects his wife and three daughters. Coming 2 America's cast features 10 character reprisals from the original film, with Murphy himself playing multiple characters. Since Coming 2 America is about family and the role of women, the inclusion of female performers such as Leslie Jones and KiKi Layne, adds some extra depth too, and adds layers to the impressive Coming 2 America cast.

Eddie Murphy As Prince Akeem

Murphy plays Akeem Joffer, an African king who learns that he has a son and grooms him to be a proper prince, even though his birth daughter has the appropriate skills to be a queen. Akeem values tradition and slowly discovers that perhaps it's time to make changes within the royal family. Murphy also reprises his roles as the barbershop characters Mr. Clarence and Saul, and plays the Sexual Chocolate lead singer Randy Watson as well.

Murphy was a regular 1980s cast member on Saturday Night Live, and from there he rose to fame as Axel Foley in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise. His other famous comedy roles include Sherman Klump in The Nutty Professor films and Donkey in the Shrek franchise. Murphy earned an Oscar nomination for his performance James "Thunder" Early in Dreamgirls. His career took a dip after that, but Murphy found a major comeback as Rudy Ray Moore in the 2019 Netflix film Dolemite Is My Name. The actor will return in another legacy sequel, as Murphy will star in Beverly Hills Cop 4.

Arsenio Hall As Semmi

In the Coming 2 America cast, Arsenio Hall reprises his role as Semmi, Akeem's aide and best friend who watches over the King as he attempts to follow royal traditions and rules. He also reprises his roles as Morris and Reverend Brown, in addition to a new witch doctor character named Baba. Hall is best known for hosting The Arsenio Hall Show from 1989 to 1994, and for a brief revival from 2013 to 2014. Hall seems to have taken a break from acting, as the 2021 release is his most recent acting credit.

Jermaine Fowler As Lavelle Junson

Jermaine Fowler co-stars as Lavelle Junson, Akeem's son who grew up in Queens, New York, in the Coming 2 America cast. Lavelle is chastised for not having the appearance of an African prince, and he tries his best to learn the family traditions. After falling in love with his personal groomer, Lavelle plans a return to America. Fowler is also known for his roles as Salvador in Sorry to Bother You and Russell in Crashing. He also voiced Pete Repeat in BoJack Horseman and appeared as Mark Clark in the award-winning Judas and the Black Messiah. In 2023, Fowler starred opposite Karen Gillan in the indie coming-of-age drama Late Bloomers.

Leslie Jones As Mary Junson

In the Coming 2 American cast, Jones plays Mary Junson, a Queens native who had a one-night stand with Akeem in the '80s. As Lavelle's mother, she's especially protective of her son but also enjoys her new status as the mother of an African prince. Jones is a former Saturday Night Live cast member who portrayed Patty Tolan in Ghostbusters (2016). She also appeared as Scanlon in Masterminds and Dr. Maggie Gravel in Death to 2020 on Netflix. Jones doesn't currently have any upcoming movies or TV shows, but she'll likely return for Our Flag Means Death season 2, reprising her role of Spanish Jackie, a pirate with 19 husbands.

Tracy Morgan As Uncle Reem

Tracy Morgan is a part of the Coming 2 America cast as Uncle Reem, Mary's brother. After essentially raising Lavelle as his son, he's concerned about him transforming into a different person, one who wants to please others rather than staying true to himself. Morgan is another former Saturday Night Live cast member, but he's best known for playing Tracy Jordan in 30 Rock. He also portrayed Paul in Cop Out and headlines The Last O.G. as Tray Barker. In 2023, Morgan had a voice-only cameo as Yet to Come in the AppleTV+ Christmas comedy Spirited, starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds.

KiKi Layne As Meeka

In Coming to America, KiKi Layne portrays Meeka, Akeem and Lisa's oldest daughter who seems destined to be queen but must instead accept that Lavelle is the rightful heir, according to Zamunda customs. Layne is known for portraying Tish Rivers in If Beale Street Could Talk, Bessie in Native Son, and Margaret in the polarizing 2022 thriller Don't Worry Darling. Layne also co-starred as Nile in The Old Guard on Netflix, and she'll reprise her role in the upcoming The Old Guard 2.

Shari Headley As Lisa

Shari Headley reprises her role as Lisa, Akeem's love interest from the original movie, in the Coming 2 America cast. Now queen, she's protective of her eldest daughter Meeka and isn't particularly excited when Lavelle and his mother show up in Zamunda. Headley is known for her soap opera roles, including Detective Mimi Reed Frye in All My Children and D.A. Jennifer Sallison in The Haves and the Have Nots. She also appeared as Harmony in On Becoming a God in Central Florida. Like Hall, Coming 2 America is her most recent acting credit.

Wesley Snipes As General Izzi

Wesley Snipes portrays General Izzi, the leader of Nextdoria who wants to arrange a marriage with the royal family for financial purposes. He's a scheming character but also doesn't seem that threatening, at least not on the surface. In the '80s, Snipes appeared as Mini Max in Michael Jackson's music video for "Bad" and later starred as Willie Mays Hayes in Major League. In the '90s, he developed into an action star, playing lead roles Simon Phoenix in Demolition Man and the titular protagonist in Blade. In 2019, Snipes starred in Dolemite Is My Name as D'Urville. Snipes' next project is Back on the Strip, a comedy movie with Kevin Hart.

James Earl Jones As King Jaffe Joffer

James Earl Jones reprises his role as King Jaffe Joffer in the Coming 2 America cast. King Jaffe Joffer is Akeem's father who is concerned that he doesn't have a legitimate male heir. Before passing away, he discovers that Akeem does indeed have a son in Queens, New York. Jones famously voiced Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise and portrayed Terence Mann in Field of Dreams. He also appeared as Admiral Greer in The Hunt for Red October and voiced Mufasa in Disney's live-action remake of The Lion King. Jones sold the rights to his voice to Disney, so that it can be recreated in future Star Wars projects.

John Amos As Cleo McDowell

John Amos reprises his role as Lisa's father, Cleo McDowell, owner of the McDowell's fast food franchise. Cleo extended his company to Zamunda, and doesn't seem ashamed that he ripped off the entire business model for McDonald's. Amos portrayed James Evans, Sr. in Good Times and Grant in Die Hard 2. The actor also appeared as Ed in The Ranch. Amos's most recent appearance was as Gil in the 2022 Netflix comedy Me Time, starring Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg.

Coming 2 America's Returning Cast & Characters

Paul Bates as Oha: Akeem's royal servant who often sings during ceremonies. Paul Bates portrayed Marty in True Romance and Manny in 8 Mile. He also had a small role as Officer Whitcomb in The Conners season 1.

Garcelle Beauvais as Rose Bearer Priestess: A royal rose bearer at Akeem's Zamunda mansion. Garcelle Beauvais portrayed Nicole in Bad Company and Doris Toomes in Spider-Man: Homecoming. She also appeared as Veronica Garland in Tell Me a Story and stars as Cheryl in 2023's Black Girl Missing.

Vanessa Bell Calloway as Imani Izzi: General Izzi's sister who was left at the altar by Prince Akeem in Coming to America. In the sequel, she barks like a dog continuing an original movie joke. Outside of being part of the Coming 2 America cast, Vanessa Bell Calloway portrayed Jackie in What's Love Got to Do with It, Grace Calloway in Daylight, and Carol Fisher in Shameless.

Louie Anderson as Maurice: Cleo's longtime employee who develops a new sandwich made out of grass. Louie Anderson starred as Louie Lundgren in The Louie Show and Christine Baskets in Baskets. He also plays Bob in Search Party.

Clint Smith as Sweets: A barbershop regular who listens to Mr. Clarence and Saul bicker. Clint Smith is a former Saturday Night Live cast member who appeared as Leroy in 48 Hrs.

Coming 2 America's New Cast & Characters

Teyana Taylor as Bopoto: General Izzi's daughter who is offered to Lavelle. She's a striking woman and an impressive performer but doesn't express any opinions of her own. A popular recording artist, Teyana Taylor portrayed Steph in The Love Section and London Scott in Hit the Floor. She was the featured dancer in Kanye West's music video for "Fade" and appeared in the cast of the White Men Can't Jump remake.

Nomzamo Mbatha as Mirembe: Lavelle's royal groomer in Africa who discusses backward Zamundan traditions. She eventually becomes Lavelle's lover and wants to start her own business. Nomzamo Mbatha is also known for Vivian in All About Love and Thandeka in Isibaya.

Bella Murphy as Omma: Akeem and Lisa's middle daughter in the Coming 2 America cast. Eddie Murphy's daughter, Bella Murphy makes her movie debut in Coming 2 America.

Akiley Love as Tinashe: Akeem and Lisa's youngest daughter who displays her athletic skills. Coming 2 America is Akiley Love's first movie.

Rotimi as Iddi Izzi: General Izzi's son who is introduced as a potential husband for Meeka. Rotimi portrayed Darius Morrison in Boss and Ezra in Divergent. He also appeared as Dre in Power.

Trevor Noah as Totatsi Bibinyana: The host on the Zamunda News Network who announces that Akeem has a legitimate son. A popular stand-up comedian, Trevor Noah voiced Griot in Black Panther and hosted The Daily Show for seven years.

Luenell as Livia: Mary's sister and Lavelle's aunt. Luenell portrayed Rhonda in Californication and Wendy in Lopez.

Michael Blackson as Nexdorian Lieutenant: General Izzi's aggressive second in command in the Coming 2 America cast who introduces his arrival at the beginning of the film. Michael Blackson portrayed Howard in The Savages and Mr. Wooky in Meet the Blacks.

Rick Ross as Nexdorian Commander: A large soldier who informs General Izzi that Akeem returned to Africa with a son. A famous hip-hop artist, Rick Ross appeared as Racks in SuperFly and had a small role in Uncle Drew.

Colin Jost as Calvin Duke: A Duke & Duke boss who interviews Lavelle for a job position. Colin Jost co-hosts the Weekend Update segment on Saturday Night Live and appeared as Ben in Tom and Jerry.

Coming 2 America's Cameos

Vanessa Rodriguez & Janette Rosillo Janette Rosillo as Fresh Peaches & Sugar Cube: The rapping identical twins from the first movie appear as part of the finale's musical number.

Morgan Freeman as Himself: Morgan Freeman reads a eulogy and introduces En Vogue and Salt-N-Pepa at a funeral ceremony for King Jaffe Joffer. He's best known for starring as Somerset in Se7en and Red in The Shawshank Redemption.

Gladys Knight as Herself: At King Jaffe Joffer's funeral, Gladys Knight performs a variation of "Midnight Train to Georgia" called "Midnight Train from Zamunda." A seven-time Grammy winner, she's the former lead singer of Gladys Knight and the Pips. She also appeared as the Bee in The Masked Singer.

En Vogue as Themselves (Terry Ellis, Rhona Bennett, Cindy Herron-Braggs): En Vogue is part of the Coming 2 America cast and performs "Whatta King" at King Jaffe Joffer's funeral. The R&B group is best known for early '90s hits like "Hold On," "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)," and "Whatta Man."

Salt-N-Pepa as Themselves (Cheryl James, Sandra Denton): Salt-N-Pepa performs with En Vogue during the funeral sequence. They are best known for early '90s hip-hop singles like "Let's Talk About Sex," "Shoop," and "Whatta Man" (with En Vogue).

Davido as Himself: Davido is part of the Coming 2 America cast and appears during a late-movie performance sequence. The singer/producer has released four studio albums since 2012 and has a large following in Africa.

Dikembe Mutombo as Himself: Former NBA star Dikembe Mutombo appears during a party sequence with Mirembe. He's interrupted by Lavelle and delivers his trademark finger wag.

John Legend as Himself: John Legend sings "Coming 2 America" on the soundtrack and appears during a mid-credits sequence singing "She's Your Queen to Be," which Paul Bates sang in the original.
