Though comedies are not typically the kinds of movies you see winning a lot of awards, there's no doubt that some of the greatest movies of all time come from the genre. The kind of movie that can make you laugh no matter how many times you see it is a rare thing and something audiences love.

IMDb's list of the 250 top-rated movies of all time features classic comedies like Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Modern Times. However, there are some other hilarious and brilliant movies that have somehow been left off the prestigious list. From recent hits to old favorites, these are some great comedies that didn't make the cut.

Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan (2006)

Sasha Baron Cohen

Without a doubt, one of the most fearless comedic talents of this generation has been Sacha Baron Cohen. Just this year he made headlines with some of the shocking stunts featured in his Borat sequel. But while some think the follow-up falls short, the original remains painfully hilarious.

The mockumentary-style comedy follows Borat, a citizen of Kazakhstan as he explores America. The fact that Cohen was able to pull off half of what he did is impressive, but it's more impressive that he made it so funny. But perhaps some viewers find the movie too uncomfortable to revisit despite its hilarity.

Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy (2004)

After Will Ferrell left Saturday Night Live, he quickly cemented himself as a movie star with movies like Anchorman. Unlike some of Ferrell's other projects, Anchorman allowed him to fully embrace his weird sense of humor in creating the absurd character of Ron Burgundy.

Though there is hardly a real story to the movie, every scene will have you laughing hysterically. Ferrell is joined by other great comedic actors like Paul Rudd and Steve Carrell as well as a ton of wonderful cameos. The result is an endlessly rewatchable and wild comedy.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

The 1980s was a decade filled with beloved teen comedies. One of the most popular films of that era is Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Matthew Broderick gives a star-making turn as the titular high schooler who fakes sick so he can have the most epic day off of all time.

It is another one of those movies that people can watch again and again while still being able to put a smile on their face. Even with Broderick's charming leading man performances, the endless memorable sequences, and the sheer fun of the adventure, folks at IMDb could muster enough love for the classic.

This Is Spinal Tap (1984)

Mockumentaries have been a fun trend in comedy movies for years and one movie that helped popularize them is This is Spinal Tap. The movie follows a fictional British rock band on a massive tour that spins wildly out of control.

Despite being heavily improvised, the movie never loses track of its outrageous characters who make it so funny. Though it is a smaller scale comedy than some of the others on this list, that doesn't prevent it from being hilarious.

Airplane! (1980)

Airplane Robert Hays

Many people consider Airplane! to be the greatest parody of all time as well as one of the funniest movies of all time. It pokes fun at airplane disaster movies that were popular around this time and finds every possible joke in the premise of a doomed airplane.

There are few movies that could write as many jokes as they cram into this movie. even more impressive, nearly all of the jokes work extremely well. Even modern audiences will find more than enough laughs, but apparently, that wasn't enough to crack the top 250.

Superbad (2007)

Superbad

Judd Apatow became known as a producer who had a knack for introducing fresh young comedic talent to the film world. One of his most acclaimed productions was the super raunchy teen romp, Superbad. Jonah Hill and Michael Cera made an ideal pair as high school outcasts looking to impress some girls at a party.

It seems crazy that the movie that delivered the character of McLovin to the world failed to make IMDb's list. While the raunchiness of the humor might turn some audiences off, the talented cast makes this a laugh-filled ride with a surprising amount of heart as well.

Shaun Of The Dead (2004)

Edgar Wright made his feature film debut by turning the zombie genre on its head. Shaun of the Dead stars Simon Pegg as an aimless man who seeks to win back his girlfriend in the midst of a zombie outbreak.

Wright successfully mashes together a solid zombie movie with a hilarious romantic-comedy and that alone should have earned him a place on the list. The one-liners come fast and furious while Wright also infuses some highly entertaining action sequences to add even more fun.

Dumb And Dumber (1994)

Dumb and Dumber Harry and lloyd

While the divisive Green Book managed to make the top 250, Peter Farrelly already delivered a much funnier and more entertaining road trip comedy years earlier. Dumb and Dumber stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as a pair of clueless friends who embark on a cross-country trip to return a lost suitcase.

Carrey continued to prove himself a comedic icon while Daniels proved himself a truly funny guy as well. Seeing the trouble these two get into while remaining completely oblivious is like watching a cartoon come to life in the best way possible.

Blazing Saddles (1974)

Blazing Saddles

The comedy legend Mel Brooks is responsible for so many great comedies, yet none of them made IMDb's list. This is especially surprising of Blazing Saddles which many consider to be Brooks' best movie.

There is no doubt that some aspects of the Western comedy have not aged well and might be too much for some audiences. However, the ambition and thrill of Brooks' comedy, not to mention its endless hilarious gags, have allowed it to maintain its reputation as a genre classic.

Ghostbusters (1984)

With all of the love Ghostbusters has inspired from fans over the years, it is hard to believe the original was not recognized on the top 250 list. The supernatural comedy blockbuster follows a group of scientists who develop a business capturing ghosts who cause mayhem in New York City.

The movie was a massive box office hit and the franchise is still trying to continue to this day. It also features one of Bill Murray's funniest performances which is saying quite a bit.
