Actress Kathryn Hahn is set to play Joan Rivers in Showtime’s upcoming limited series, The Comeback Girl. Hahn’s impressive and varied career spans past two decades, during which she has worked steadily in high-profile films and television series such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Crossing JordanTransparent, and Parks and Recreation. In January 2021, Hahn rocketed to an even higher level of fame with her widely celebrated and Emmy-nominated performance in Disney+’s WandaVision as Agnes, the always-nearby neighbor of Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), who turns out to be the villainous Agatha Harkness.

Now Variety reports that Hahn will soon be playing comedy icon, Joan Rivers, in the upcoming Showtime limited series, The Comeback Girl. Rivers, who passed away in 2014, was a groundbreaking and at times controversial comedian, actress, writer, producer, and host. The Comeback Girl will be set in the late 1980s, in the personally and professionally challenging time period that came after Rivers’ short-lived role as the host of The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers.

It will be produced by Warner Bros. Television, Atlas Entertainment, and Berlanti Productions. Further casting has yet to be announced.

The synopsis for The Comeback Girl reads, “Trailblazer. Adored. Cruel. Diva. Joan Rivers had a life like no other. At age 54, she was a superstar comedienne…and then it all fell apart. The Comeback Girl is the awe-inspiring untold story of how Joan Rivers persevered through near suicide and professional abyss to rebuild herself and her career to become a global icon.”
