Jon and Kate Plus 8 star Collin Gosselin did not hold anything back, as he honestly revealed that the reality TV show tore his family apart and severed his relationship with his mom, Kate Gosselin. Collin is one of the sextuplets shared by Jon and Kate Gosselin. The ex-couple gained public recognition when they put the lives of their sextuplets on TV. This includes their birth and the first ten years of their lives.
In an exclusive interview with ET, Collin detailed his experiences growing up and how starring on Jon and Kate Plus 8 tore his family apart. "I want to believe it was because of TV and what being in the public eye does to a family. I think it tore us apart," the 18-year-old reality star said. Collin added that with his family on the show, they spent more time being in the public eye than spending more time together as a family. The impact of not having a close relationship with his family was especially challenging for him, as he was still a child when the show was airing from 2007 to 2017. Apart from the pressure of being on TV, the Jon and Kate Plus 8 alum revealed that his relationship with his mom has long been severed. However, it grew worse when his mom put him in an institution that she claimed would help him deal with his alleged behavioral issues.
Collin Is Open For Reconciliation With Kate Gosselin
Collin, who now lives with his father, Jon, seemed unhappy about the relationship he has with his mom. "It's unfortunate that we didn't have a relationship,” he said, adding that he would have loved to have had a relationship with his mom. However, he noted that he was doing just fine. Collin does not just wish to have a good relationship with Kate, but his siblings as well. When asked if Collin would still welcome a relationship with his mom, his response was positive, stating that it would be ideal to reconcile.
Collin did not have a particularly happy upbringing. Nevertheless, despite the difficulties and challenges he has encountered, his view is still largely positive. As a result, he solely conveys messages of kindness and hope. Collin thinks that having struggles is almost an inevitability in life. According to him, crying over difficult circumstances will not make the problem go away. He believes that resilience is the best way to deal with life's challenges, as he has demonstrated in his own life.
Although Collin's parents, Jon and Kate, split in 2009, Jon was given full custody of Collin in December 2018 after Kate and her legal representatives failed to appear at a hearing. The former Jon and Kate Plus 8 star has learned some lessons from being a teenager who didn't have a normal mother-son relationship. Rather than hating his mom, he concluded that she had an agenda. While Collin does not know what Kate's agenda is, his goal is to get out of the situation he has found himself in as a teenager. It is admirable how Collin has displayed such a high level of responsibility, optimism, and resilience at such a young age.
