Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

Reports suggest that player skins in Call of Duty: Warzone will not carry over to the game's sequel. Warzone players were hopeful that their vast cosmetic collections, amassed over the last few years, would carry over to the long-awaited Warzone sequel. Unfortunately, new information seems to cast doubt onto that possibility.

Activision's battle royale has provided a plethora of paid and free content for its players thus far. Beyond simple skins for the player's operator, this downloadable content includes additional weapons, new game modes, and even a brand-new map. Warzone serves as a unified space for Call of Duty players as it ties in seasonal content with mainline franchise games, including Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and most recently, VanguardWarzone has been notable for this fact, that content purchased as part of one installment in the Call of Duty series would carry over into Warzone even when a new installment was released. The expectation was that this would continue when Warzone 2 was released, but that does not seem to be the case.

According to video game writer Tom Henderson, his understanding is that Warzone skins will not carry over to Warzone 2. However, it's important to note that Henderson does not have clarification as to whether the Warzone skins will carry over or not. Instead, he poses the questions because of the fact that those Warzone skins are still actively released, despite the announcement of Warzone's coming sequel. It should be reiterated that there is no confirmation from Activision so Warzone's skins may end up being transferrable to the sequel. However, at this point, Henderson does not appear to believe that is the case.

Beyond skins, however, Warzone's battle pass also contains additional cosmetics and advancements, as well as gameplay augments like weapon and vehicle blueprints. These are still purchasable as part of the battle pass along with skins, so any clarification from Activision Blizzard would hopefully address these purchases as well. Until then, Warzone players may take caution in buying the cosmetics or battle pass tiers, for fear that they might become obsolete in a few months' time.

If Activision Blizzard does decide not to allow skins to carry over to the Warzone sequel, it is likely many fans will not be happy. One reason is that battle pass is not exclusive to Warzone but encompasses three other mainline Call of Duty titles. Many have grown comfortable with this continuity, adding value to the Call of Duty experience overall. So a blank slate regarding this will undoubtedly be to the dismay of some. Moving forward with Call of Duty: Warzone, fans should be aware that new skins may very well not continue with them.
