In tandem with the kickoff of Summer Game Fest 2021, Activision teased its plans for Call of Duty: Warzone Season Four. The battle royale game should be getting an assortment of additions in the new season, though they won't likely live up to the map replacement that marked the launch of Season 3. Either way, Warzone players won't have to wait long see what Season Four has in store.

The only map change indicated so far is a satellite crash, which will probably destroy several buildings. Developers Treyarch and Raven Software have made map evolution a regular feature of Warzone; in the run-up to Season 3, for example, a zombie infection gradually spread across Verdansk, and some areas became irradiated as a hint at the incoming nuke. The current 1980s incarnation of the map is meant to reflect the latest mainline Call of Duty game, Black Ops Cold War. Still, Warzone has fewer maps than rival battle royales like PUBG or Apex Legends.

The Warzone Season Four launch date was attached to the end of a new gameplay trailer for Cold War and Warzone, setting the season launch for June 17, 2021. The short turnaround is one of the factors pointing to a smaller amount of content. Until the Summer Game Fest teaser, the only notable hint at Season Four's content was a cryptic Twitter graphic shared by Raven that mentioned "cargo" and said something in Verdansk "needs saving." That could be a reference to the satellite, something supported by the new trailer's YouTube description, which mentions a new threat "coming from above."

What Else Might Warzone Season 4 Have?

Assuming Raven follows the path of most seasonal Call of Duty updates, other changes should include new guns, skins, and operators. Raven will probably also take the opportunity to make balance adjustments and deal with glaring problems - literally. Warzone's lens flares are reportedly being reduced, since they can be blinding and make it hard to snipe long-range targets. Lighting tweaks were recently made to Verdansk's smaller companion map, Rebirth Island.

A large number of game announcements were made at the start of Summer Game Fest, including a January release date for Elden Ring and reveals for games like Payday 3, Tiny Tina's WonderlandsMetal Slug Tactics, and a sequel to Painkiller. It's possible subsequent video game events in the coming week could include more Call of Duty: Warzone news, as E3 2021 proper begins June 12.
