Update (5/13/2021 1:40 PM EDT): The Call of Duty Twitter account has officially confirmed that "80s action heroes" will be included in a coming Warzone update on May 20. The tweet heavily teases Die Hard and Rambo to be the subject of this crossover, reading, "Some heroes Die Hard. Others draw First Blood," but no official confirmation or denial of the leaked skin images has yet been released. The original story continues below.

The heavily teased Rambo and Die Hard skins for Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War have allegedly leaked online. Rumors of an upcoming John Rambo skin circulated for a while before being officially teased by Call of Duty on social media, and the franchise subsequently teased the inclusion of a heavily rumored John McClane skin, as well, with speculation recently intensifying. Considering the Rambo and Die Hard series began in the 1980s, the emergence of a playable skin makes perfect sense for the current trajectory of Warzone after its fully Black Ops Cold War integration and the release of Verdansk '84.

Even before the Rambo teaser trailer was published, Call of Duty had already sent out some cryptic tweets hinting at a soon-to-be announcement. Arguably the most revealing tweet included stats for a Call of Duty player who recorded a whopping 552 kills in a short period of time. The player's username, SURVIVORJOHN#1009062, was another strong hint that Sylvester Stallone's iconic movie character would be coming soon. Rumors have also been circulating that John McClane from Die Hard is coming to Call of Duty as a skin. Now, leaks have emerged online apparently showing how the McClane and Rambo skins most likely look.

Alleged leaks of both the John Rambo and John McClane skin have appeared on Reddit, where user JohnnyUtahBrah uploaded screenshots. The final version of each character's skin has not been verified by either Raven Software or Activision at publication time. However, a tweet from TheGhostOfMW featuring the skins has reportedly been flagged for copyright violation in a move that seemingly supports the legitimacy of these Reddit images.

The free-to-play battle royale Warzone is in its third season, and the current season has arguably witnessed the game's biggest changes yet. The game's primary map, Verdansk, was obliterated by a nuclear explosion to mark the ending of Season Two. The original battle arena has been replaced with a version of the map set in 1984, leading to rumors that multiple film characters from the '80s making their Call of Duty debuts.

With Warzone having traveled back in time, introducing iconic action-adventure characters from the same era's popular films (especially properties that frequently have collaborated with other games like Mortal Kombat and Gears of War) seem entirely within the realm of possibility. With the latest leak, it seems certain at this point that Rambo and John McClane are coming to Call of Duty very soon. What their final forms will be, and whether or not their awkward character models are improved, remains a mystery for now.
