An emblem used in Call of Duty: Warzone has a striking resemblance to a Neo-Nazi symbol. The worldwide phenomenon and competitive shooter has been the center of attention for quite some time. Having arrived at the beginning of a global pandemic that forced gamers inside, Call of Duty: Warzone had overnight success and its popularity has not ceased. The attention has not been all good, though, as the game consistently delivers game-breaking bugs. One such bug drowns players in sunlight, making it impossible to win games. Another bug has players glitching underneath the floor in Rebirth Island, which allows them to rain fire on unsuspecting victims and win firefights completely unharmed. Bugs, however, are not the only things players worry about when logging into Warzone.

Hate speech and Nazi symbols have crowded modern culture for quite some time. Games, especially, have seen problematic culture and groups infiltrating lobbies and servers with hateful ideas. One major incident on Twitch saw Miami Heat center, Meyers Leonard, refer to a fellow Warzone player with an anti-Semitic slur. While community-driven hate is especially unnerving, some game developers accidentally fall into circumstances where in-game features support hate groups. Destiny 2 has had a number of these instances, having accidentally titled a challenge with a historically anti-Semitic slogan. Players also found a Destiny 2 flag design that was modelled on a Nazi war flag.

Reported on by PC Gamer, Call of Duty: Warzone players on Reddit noticed that an in-game emblem bears a striking resemblance to a neo-Nazi symbol. While the in-game emblem is tied to Chimera, a fictional PMC started by a Modern Warfare character, it shares an uncanny resemblance to a logo used by the Azov Battalion, a far-right nationalist regiment of the Ukrainian nation guard. Side-by-side, both symbols are nearly identical, save for the fact that the coloring is swapped.

The unnerving aspect to this in-game emblem's existence is that it seems to be a modern interpretation of the Wolfsangel, a symbol adopted by the Nazi party during World War 2, as well as neo-Nazi groups, such as the Aryan Nations. While it may all be a coincidence, the evidence is hard to deny. Some games choose to incorporate Nazi propaganda for story and atmospheric sake, like in Wolfenstein, but that certainly doesn't seem to be the case with the Chimera symbol in Call of Duty.

Players likely won’t want to purchase this in-game emblem for their Warzone loadout, but thankfully, it is a hard one to come by anyway. With the way Warzone’s in-game store works, the Chimera pack is only available if players purchased the pack when it was first announced, or if it happens to cycle into their personalized storefront. Warzone developers have yet to address the issue and accusations, but hopefully they do so soon.
