Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players on PC will finally get some control over the game’s ballooning file size, as its next update will let them uninstall game modes they don’t use. Modern Warfare players on console have already had access to this space-saving feature for a while now, giving them the ability to uninstall the game’s campaign, multiplayer, and Spec Ops modes separately.

Developer Infinity Ward has been extremely active with updates throughout Modern Warfare’s lifetime. It’s added lots of new content to keep players engaged, but that also means it’s required players to download a lot of extra data. Because of that, Modern Warfare’s install size has grown consistently since its launch, getting to the point where it’s even outgrown some players’ hard drives. With all modes included, Modern Warfare is one of the biggest video games out there, not including those that have expanded through additional DLC.

Now, Infinity Ward is giving PC players a new option to manage the ever-growing game, just weeks before its successor, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, is set to arrive. Modern Warfare’s next update is scheduled to launch on Wednesday, October 13, and while Infinity Ward still hasn’t released the official patch notes, one feature it’s adding has already been revealed. Paul Haile, Modern Warfare’s production director announced on Twitter today that the game will add the ability to uninstall specific modes on PC.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s upcoming match should help PC players reclaim some space on their hard drives, and it hopefully sets a trend that will continue with the release of its sequel. Between the two most recent Call of Duty campaign games and Warzone, anyone wanting to keep up with all sides of the franchise will be sacrificing a lot of storage space to do so. The Xbox Series S has made a point of allowing developers to deliver smaller assets for its lower resolution output, and both Sony and Microsoft say their next-gen consoles will make deleting unused parts of games at least a possibility. For PC players, though, that utility remains up to individual developers.

There are plenty of players out there who were willing to sacrifice the hard drive space to keep playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but even the biggest fans will likely be glad to have more control over what they keep installed. A year after release, most players active in multiplayer likely don’t have much use for the game’s campaign anymore and could probably use that space for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War soon.
