The gameplay reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Zombies mode has been released, showcasing some truly outlandish weapons and a return to a classic map. The buildup to the release of the latest Call of Duty game has been as mysterious and intriguing as the game's setting demands. Before Black Ops Cold War was officially announced, Treyarch led fans through a cryptic ARG involving slide projectors and historic chess matches. Even now that the game has been revealed and fans have seen gameplay footage, Treyarch is still keeping things mysterious, teasing players with messages from sinister hooded figures on Twitter.

Before today, a lot of the mystique surrounding the game pertained to the Zombies mode. Zombies have been a proud part of Call of Duty for years now, and it was always very unlikely that they wouldn't feature in Black Ops Cold War. The beloved multiplayer survival mode was confirmed through a brief teaser at the end of a gameplay reveal trailer earlier this month, and despite the brevity of this reveal, fan expectations were set pretty high. The undead hordes looked genuinely terrifying, and a brief jumpscare at the end of the trailer told players to expect a truly tense experience.

The full reveal of the Zombies mode, Die Maschine, was posted earlier today on the Call of Duty YouTube page. A full trailer was presented, along with a deep dive into what fans can expect from the new generation of Zombie survival. A lot of features are returning that fans have come to expect from the game mode, like Pack-a-Punch machines and Perks. One very new thing showcased in the trailer was an arsenal of powerful and strange new weapons, including an automated gatling gun sentry and a massive cannon which fires a slow-moving orb of blue flame, burning zombies as it goes. The zombies themselves are also very distinct; Activision proudly displayed several that glowed with a noxious green gas, and some fearsome undead hounds as well. Activision is also bringing back the classic map Nacht der Untoten for players to explore and survive in as they uncover more of this sinister Cold War plot. Watch the full reveal below.

Activision is promising a truly incredible experience for zombie fans in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. To quote lead writer Craig Houston, Die Maschine is set to be the franchise's "most epic Zombies experience ever." Many of the features announced in the video, like a new exfil system that allows players to evacuate a map if things get too hairy, were clearly designed to improve player experience in the game. Zombies have always been a fan favorite in the Call of Duty community, and Activision is definitely giving them the love they deserve in Black Ops Cold War.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is shaping up to be a Call of Duty experience like no other. Activision is giving a lot of love to the intrigue-heavy setting, though there's still some doubt over whether or not the bad parts of the Cold War will be represented as well as the good, as it should be. There looks to be something in this game to appeal to everyone, even players who have historically not been especially interested in the series. Fans will be happy to learn that the Zombies mode is getting the same amount of love as the rest of the game, and they should look forward to having a blast fighting the legions of the dead when Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches on November 13th.
