Warning: SPOILERS for Cobra Kai Season 4

The ending of Cobra Kai season 4 set up the story's continuation in season 5 and here's everything we know about the next chapter of The Karate Kid spinoff. Cobra Kai season 4 was built around a battle for the soul of the San Fernando Valley at the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament, which was meant to settle Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawerence's (William Zabka) score with John Kreese (Martin Kove) and Cobra Kai. But a shocking series of events in Cobra Kai season 4's finale spins the story in new directions for Cobra Kai season 5.

Cobra Kai has been a popular hit for Netflix since it acquired the series from YouTube in June 2020. Netflix streamed the first two seasons of Cobra Kai in 2020 before it premiered season 3 on January 1, 2021, which gave The Karate Kid continuation series a huge new global audience. Cobra Kai's jump to Netflix created millions of new fans who joined the longtime lovers of The Karate Kid movies and the martial arts action/comedy became one of the streamer's biggest hits. Cobra Kai season 3's success naturally built up anticipation for season 4, which was produced in Atlanta and Los Angeles in 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cobra Kai season 4 also introduced new young characters to continue The Karate Kid saga. It's evident from Cobra Kai season 4's ending that Daniel, Johnny, Kreese, Silver, and their students' stories are far from over. Here's everything we know about what's next in Cobra Kai season 5.

Cobra Kai Season 5 Story Setup & Details

Miguel All Valley Cobra Kai 4

Cobra Kai season 4's All Valley tournament ended with Kreese and Silver's dojo winning the overall Grand Championship as well as Cobra Kai crowning the first-ever All Valley girl's champion in Tory Nichols (Peyton List). Although Eli "Hawk" Moskowitz won the boy's All Valley championship for Miyagi-Do, according to their wager, Daniel and Johnny both have to shut down their dojos. Yet Daniel refused to abide by the rules and imported Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) from The Karate Kid Part II to help him go on the offense against Cobra Kai.

Meanwhile, Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) left for Mexico City to find his birth father while Silver framed Kreese for attacking Stingray (Paul Walter Hauser) and had him arrested, giving Terry sole control over Cobra Kai. However, Tory learned that Silver paid off the referee at the All Valley tournament, tainting Nichols' championship win. Those are just a few of the stories that Cobra Kai season 5 will continue.

Cobra Kai season 5 has already completed production. Although Netflix has yet to announce its release date, it's likely that Cobra Kai season 5 will premiere at the end of 2022/start of 2023. Cobra Kai season 3 premiered on New Year's Day 2021 and season 4 dropped on New Year's Eve 2021. If Netflix sticks to that annual release pattern, Cobra Kai season 5 will help usher in 2023. Meanwhile, it's also possible that Cobra Kai season 6 will begin production sometime in 2022.

In an interview with Screen Rant, executive producer Josh Heald revealed that Cobra Kai season 5 is not the end of the series. Heald promised that Cobra Kai has many more stories to tell and that season 5 was not written as the ending of the show. This bodes well for Cobra Kai season 6 and beyond. Although Netflix has a history of abruptly canceling its shows, hopefully, Cobra Kai's continued success will guarantee Daniel, Johnny, and the rest of the karate kids will remain on Netflix for years to come until the producers decide to end Cobra Kai on their terms.
