Cobra Kai actress, Courtney Henggeler, wants to do some karate in the show's next season. The actress plays Amanda on the hit Netflix series, which is a spin-off of the popular '80s film franchise, The Karate Kid. The original film follows a lonely teen, Danny LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), as he struggles to navigate a new school. He is taken under the wing of Mr. Miyagi to learn the art of karate and finds his way to becoming a karate champion. Cobra Kai takes place in the modern-day and follows Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), Danny’s childhood rival, and Danny, with Ralph Macchio reprising his role, as they train a new generation of karate teens under the dojos of Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do.

Henggeler plays Amanda LaRusso, Danny’s wife, who finds herself further mixed into the conflict between karate dojos and the teens. While earlier seasons keep Amanda outside of the fight, season 4 sees her more involved. After a massive break-in at the end of Cobra Kai season 3, Amanda must do what she can to save her daughter from the same fate as Miguel, who is attacked and hospitalized after a fight at school.

In an interview with THR, Henggeler reveals that she wants Amanda to do karate in Cobra Kai season 5. The actress reveals that she is incredibly proud of the massive success Cobra Kai has had in its run and her involvement as the LaRusso matriarch. Each season, she asks the writers for a karate scene with her character, but they have yet to budge. Henggeler would not be opposed if the story calls for her to break out her karate moves someday. Read what she said below:

I really hope that someday we see Amanda’s confidence in her own karate abilities. One of these seasons, she has to know some karate, right?! (Laughs.) I have suggested to the writers that she finally does karate, and they’re like, “Hmm. Maybe someday…” Perhaps when they have no storylines left. (Laughs.) But I lay the groundwork every season!

Daniel and Amanda LaRusso in Cobra Kai

Amanda’s life would have changed the day she met Danny LaRusso. With Danny’s involvement in karate and teaching their daughter, Amanda at some point would have had to have learned a move or two. But with Danny LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence truly teaming up next season, Amanda’s odds for her own karate match are dwindling. However, a hint of what she may hold within would treat fans of the series with its empowerment of female characters.

Next season will see John Kreese (Martin Kove), Cobra Kai founder, facing legal battles while Johnny and Danny must face off with new Cobra Kai leader, Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith). With the teens learning to understand their place in the karate-sphere, Amanda LaRusso may have more on her plate than in the previous seasons. Filming for Cobra Kai season 5 concluded in December 2021.
