A new full trailer for Cobra Kai season 4 highlights the return of villain Terry Silver. Silver was played by Thomas Ian Griffith in The Karate Kid: Part III, acting as a manipulative coach who lured Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) to Cobra Kai, all in an attempt to torture him as payback. Silver learned martial arts alongside his Vietnam War comrade, John Creese (Martin Kove), and the duo later formed Cobra Kai after the war. Griffith returns to the role of Silver after a long hiatus from acting, once again setting out to disrupt the world of LaRusso and now his Miyagi-Do students with his Cobra Kai methods.
Cobra Kai season 3 saw Kreese taking over the Cobra Kai dojo, accepting a challenge from both LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) to settle their disagreements in a tournament, with the losing dojo to shut its doors forever. Cobra Kai season 3 also saw the rivalry between Sam (Mary Mauser) and Tory (Peyton List) intensify, leaving their dispute unresolved. Lawrence's son, Robby (Tanner Buchanan) chose Cobra Kai over his father and LaRusso, while Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) battled through his injuries sustained in Cobra Kai season 2 to regain his confidence.
Netflix has released the new trailer for Cobra Kai season 4, which picks up where season 3 left off, as Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang karate have joined forces to train together in an effort to defeat Cobra Kai once and for all. However, season 4 has a new threat to contend with in the form of Griffith's Terry Silver, who looks to be every bit as dangerous as he was in The Karate Kid: Part III. The trailer features looks at new rivalries, alliances, romances, and training, all leading up to a return to the All-Valley Karate Tournament. Check out the new trailer below:
Cobra Kai season 5 is currently wrapping up filming. Showrunners Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald and Hayden Schlossberg have said that while they have an endgame in mind for the show, they don't know how many seasons it will take to get there. Terry Silver's return certainly complicates matters, potentially reviving his old rivalry with LaRusso. In addition to more seasons of Cobra Kai, there's also been discussion of spinoff shows for various Karate Kid/Cobra Kai characters. What those would be have yet to be revealed, but with the show being one of their most popular, the show is sure to continue for a long while.
The first three seasons of Cobra Kai proved to be something special, balancing drama, comedy, and action far better than ever anticipated. The show has quickly become the model for how to revive a franchise, which gives equal time to the nostalgic elements, while pushing the narrative in new and exciting directions. Bringing back an iconic villain like Silver is just one of the ways Cobra Kai has effectively incorporated the franchise's legacy will also keeping it fresh for new fans. Loyalists to The Karate Kid are able to enjoy the characters they grew up with, while newer audiences are able to connect with the younger faces on the show. Cobra Kai has taken the mythology created in The Karate Kid and expanded it to cross generations, which is no small task. Now, many are likely hoping that Cobra Kai season 4 delivers a compelling final stand-off between LaRusso, Lawrence and the villainous Silver.
