Netflix is ringing in the new year with a splash of karate with Cobra Kai season 3 releasing online at midnight. Originally produced for - and released on - YouTube Red, Cobra Kai became an overwhelming success for Netflix when the streaming service acquired the series, including its already-completed third season. Its first two season debuted on Netflix in August 2020 and quickly became the most-watched show on the platform. That popularity extended throughout September, since it was also the most-watched show of the entire month.

Now a little under four months later, Netflix is releasing Cobra Kai season 3. Many questions will be answered from the heated Cobra Kai season 2 finale, in which Miguel Diaz suffered a significant injury, which itself may be a source of more conflict between Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso. Even though the first two seasons of Cobra Kai released on Netflix just a few months ago, fans who've been with the show since it premiered on YouTube have been waiting some time to find out what happens after season 2 - and their wait is almost over.

Cobra Kai season 3 releases on Netflix at 12:01 am PST, 3:01 am EST, and 8:01 am GMT. Like all Netflix movies and TV shows, Cobra Kai season 3 begins streaming on the day of its official release date - according to Pacific Time. So that means fans on the east coast may have to begin watching the following morning or evening. Thankfully, Cobra Kai season 3 comes out on New Year's day, which means people in other time zones may still be awake and want to kick off the new year with a little martial arts.

People who've become accustomed to Amazon Prime releasing movies, shows, and new episodes early on Thursday evenings, that's not something Netflix will do. Sure, they moved up Cobra Kai season 3's release date from January 8 to January 1, but that's the furthest they'll go to release the series early. Even if they were to release the new season a few hours early, people may be distracted by the New Year's Eve celebrations to actually notice.

Aside from its release date and time, the good thing is, Cobra Kai season 3 isn't the show's last. Not too long ago, Netflix announced Cobra Kai season 4, which highlights how confident the streaming service is in the series. After all, Cobra Kai is only the latest property in a string of TV shows that have been acquired by Netflix from other networks - Lucifer and The Killing are perhaps the two most notable properties - and if seasons 3 and 4 prove popular, it may continue for a little while longer.
