The former YouTube Red series Cobra Kai has become a hit since its initial release on the platform. Now shifting over to Netflix, Cobra Kai is gearing up for a third season, with a fourth one announced to be under production. As the series grows in its popularity, its cast of characters begin to stand out more and more, with William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, and Martin Kove returning from their original roles in The Karate Kid while Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, and Tanner Buchanan lead the charge for the new school.

In order to keep the momentum going from its astounding success, GameMill Entertainment and Flux Games created the side-scrolling beat'em up Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues. As is the case with most licensed video games, several members of the main cast will find their way into the title, connecting fans of the source material with the world of the video game with the familiar voice of their favorite characters from the show.

While licensed video games have become much more of a rarity nowadays, the occasional one finds its way into the wild with varying results. In the case of Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues, care was clearly put into the title and the characterization of the show's main cast. In a show of that care, William Zabka and Ralph Macchio once again reprise their signature roles from the franchise as Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso. Players will also be familiar with the voices of Jacob Bertrand and Gianni Decenzo as Hawk and Demetri from the onset. Unfortunately, this is as far as the similarities go.

Who Is Missing From The Cobra Kai Game?

Fans hoping to see and hear more of Xolo Maridueña's take of Miguel Diaz will be left sorely disappointed, as the actor does not reprise his role from the series into the game. The same applies Tanner Buchanan's Robby Keene and Mary Mouser's portrayal of Daniel LaRusso's daughter Samantha. In a surprising move, Martin Kove also does not return to portray John Kreese, leaving Zabka and Macchio as the only two actors to reprise across the original movies, the Cobra Kai series, and the video game, with Bertrand and Decenzo being the only other actors from the series to return.

Licensed video games have a history of being hit-or-miss in the success of acquiring the actors from the source material to reprise their roles. However, in cases where some actors return and others don't, it can create a jarring effect for players, allowing fans to become immersed once again before shattering the illusion when a voice doesn't sound like it should. With Cobra Kai, the portrayals of Johnny and Daniel continue their long-standing legacy while Hawk and Demetri act as the narrators to this new, original tale. It is then a shame that the others couldn't join the ride.
