In Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7, episode 6, "Deal No Deal," one key scene involving Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker serves as a remake of a moment from Return of the Jedi. Ahsoka made her long-awaited return to The Clone Wars in the previous season 7 installment, "Gone With A Trace". Now that she's back in the fold, "Deal No Deal" sets about giving the character a new mission, as she joins Trace and her sister, Rafa, on a smuggling job

The Clone Wars season 7, episode 6 has Ahsoka and her new friends leave Coruscant on board Trace's put together starship. Being a rookie pilot, however, Trace inadvertently wanders into restricted military airspace. She gets challenged by the Captain Yularen, the commander of a Venator Star Destroyer, to leave the airspace. Ahsoka doesn't want her to answer the call, insisting she change course back to the civilian lanes. Unfortunately, Trace impulsively answers, and her sister Rafa apologizes with a flimsy excuse that she's teaching her sister how to fly.

This is where things get interesting in "Deal No Deal", because it transpires that Anakin himself is on board the Venator. Anakin walks up to Yularen and asks who is on that ship, and in turn Yularen asks if he should send a detachment to arrest them. Ultimately, Anakin reaches out with the Force to ascertain who's there, and he discovers that it's Ahsoka. If that sounds familiar, it's because it's almost exactly the same scene as in Return of the Jedi, where Han, Leia, Luke, and Chewbacca are on board a stolen shuttle that is trying to get to Endor to sabotage the shield generator (h/t @Jbandos on Twitter). It's so similar beat-for-beat, in fact, that it even came down to the same character deciding the other's fate.

In Return of the Jedi, the heroes are challenged by Admiral Piet, who is commanding the Executor Super Star Destroyer, and Darth Vader is present at the time. Vader asks a similar question to the one Anakin does in The Clone Wars season 7, episode 6, and Piet says he was about to clear them with an older code, but should he hold? At that moment, Vader reaches out and connects with Luke. In both The Clone Wars and Return of the Jedi, Anakin/Darth Vader chooses to lets them go. The way it plays out, as well as the shots used - the close-ups of Ahsoka/Luke and Anakin/Vader, the wider shots of the respective crews - are near identical.

Of course, the difference is that Ahsoka and her friends are able to go on their way in The Clone Wars, while Luke would eventually surrender himself to Vader in Return of the Jedi. It's a great moment that not only pays homage to the original trilogy, but gives viewers a peak into the blind spot Anakin has for the people he cares for. This moment in particular serves to highlight just how strong the Force connection between Anakin and Ahsoka really is, much like the bond between Darth Vader and Luke will become, and that's something that will continue to be important as The Clone Wars season 7 continues.
