Dave Filoni clarifies George Lucas' involvement with Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7. Lucas actually created The Clone Wars, which launched back in 2008, and was heavily involved with the series for most of its run. For years, he served as one of the executive producers, spearheading The Clone Wars alongside Filoni. It was Lucas who helped shape Ahsoka TanoClone Wars' breakout character.

Recently, Filoni said Lucas still provides him with feedback and ideas on new Star Wars projects. This, coupled with Clone Wars season 7 episodes ending with a "created by George Lucas" credit, surprised fans since Lucas has been retired since Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm. These developments led some to believe Lucas was once again hands-on in the galaxy far, far away, but much like his season 7 credit (which is attributed to him being the series creator), there frankly isn't much to get excited about.

In an interview with EW, Filoni was asked about Lucas' role in The Clone Wars season 7. While Filoni admitted some of this season's elements (like the Siege of Mandalore and Ahsoka's duel with Maul) are rooted in conversations he had with Lucas, the Star Wars creator's involvement wasn't as significant as fans might have hoped:

That's largely been taken out of context in people's enthusiasm. George and I still talk, and I'll ask him some things. But he's just really enjoying watching them. What's in play are things we had discussed years ago. The Bad Batch were series of stories we had written in story meetings with him, and the Trace and Rafa arc were adapted off of outlines from then. These last four episodes were probably the least developed of what we had done.

Though Lucas' involvement in the final season was small, his contributions still had a big impact on Clone Wars season 7. The Bad Batch episodes Filoni alludes to gave season 7 a very emotional arc that relayed the expression there is individuality and choice in all of us, even clones (something Clone Wars has explored to great effect in the past). The Bad Batch episodes told a very personal story that viewers enjoyed. While the episodes obviously went through revisions and rewrites prior to season 7's debut, it's still nice to know Lucas played a part in developing the Bad Batch years ago.

Fans have responded positively to Clone Wars animated series, particularly enjoying this seventh and final season. Due to the rise in admiration for the series and new admiration for the prequel setting that Lucas created before, Lucas is seen in a more positive light today than when the prequels came out. What was once revered as a mistake in story and direction, is now forgiven since it gave way to a now beloved and one the most successful Star Wars show run within the franchise. Even if Lucas gave little support on the final episodes, his support of Filoni and his ideas have pushed Star Wars: The Clone Wars to renowned animated series popularity.
