Clive Owen is an English actor that has earned his way to stardom by playing the lead role in the ITV series Chancer from 1990 to 1991. He's best known for his word in art house films but has done quite well for himself in mainstream movies as well. He's a class act when it comes to the movies he has under his belt and has a rather large fan-base to speak for it.
Over the years he's added films that have received great ratings, especially on IMDb. Clive is a multi-dimensional actor that has played a lot of characters that will go down in history as some of the best and most memorable.
Shoot 'Em Up - 6.7 (2007)
Clive Owen plays a man named Smith who is minding his business at night saves a pregnant woman from a gunman. He assists with the baby's delivery and is curious to find out why the gunmen and his gang want the baby dead. Smith tends to keep the baby safe with the help of a prostitute while realizing the rabbit hole of this mystery has something to do with a lab and a presidential campaign.
Also starring Paul Giamatti as the villain, Shoot 'Em Up, among other films, is definitely one of his best roles thus far.
Greenfingers - 6.8 (2000)
Written and directed by Joel Hershman, Greenfingers tells the true story of an "experimental prison" that lets the prisoners walk around freely. When inmate Colin Briggs realizes he has a knack for gardening, others do so as well when he is recognized by a gardening guru who encourages him and a few others to join a competition.
Starring Clive Owen as Colin and Helen Mirren as Georgina Woodhouse, this film is unique and touching. Helen Mirren is a perfect fit for her character in Greenfingers and it may be among one of her best roles to date.
The Boys Are Back - 6.8 (2009)
In the drama called The Boys Are Back, a sportswriter named Joe Warr who finds himself a widowed father with two boys. It's a confessional tale of fatherhood that follows this broken family that tries to put the pieces together. While raising a 6-year-old and a rebellious teen, Joe realizes his parenting philosophy isn't going so well when things spin out of control.
They each must seek their own paths to mature and grow up. The Boys Are Back is emotionally captivating and well done. This is perhaps a movie from the mid-2000s that's underrated.
Elizabeth: The Golden Age - 6.8 (2007)
Cate Blanchett, Clive Owen, and Geoffrey Rush star in Elizabeth: The Golden Age, a brilliant biographical film about Queen Elizabeth. In the film, she endures various crises later in her royal reign that includes an assassination plot, the Spanish Armada, and romantic ventures.
Clive Owen proves he can play a cocky, but charming Sir Walter Raleigh, and at times the script might twindle, but Cate Blanchett comes out fighting and playing her role wonderfully. Cate has played a lot of amazing roles throughout the years and Elizabeth: The Golden Age is one of them.
Trust - 6.9 (2010)
David Schwimmer, best known for his role in Friends, takes a stab at directing a film called Trust. It deals with hard issues such as online predators and sexual assault when a 14-year-old girl meets her first boyfriend online.
Clive Owen plays Will, a father whose family is turned upside down and will stop at nothing to find the man who did this to his daughter and get his family back.
Closer - 7.2 (2004)
Closer is a dramatic-romance that was based on an award-winning play and boasts an A-list line-up of Natalie Portman, Clive Owen, Jude Law, and Julia Roberts. When two couples named Dan and Alice and Anna and Larry find themselves connected because of Dan and Larry's infidelities, it links the couples together and tears their relationships and inabilities apart
Closer has been recognized with many awards and nominations, including numerous Golden Globe wins for both Portman and Owen. Closer is definitely among some of the best work Natalie Portman has done in her career.
Inside Man 7.6 (2006)
Directed by Spike Lee, Inside Man begins when a situation brings a cop, a bank robber, and a broker, high-stakes negotiations are made and a hostage situation ensues. Clive Owen plays a master bank robber named Dalton Russell, while the brilliant hostage negotiator Keith Frazier, played by the iconic Denzel Washington, is caught up in a cat and mouse game with Dalton but is always one step behind.
Inside Man is an action-packed crime flick that's one of Spike Lee's best and one of the best heist movies in the film industry.
The Bourne Identity 7.9 (2002)
In The Bourne Identity, Clive Owen plays The Professor, alongside Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. When a body is discovered alive at sea, the rescued man doesn't know who he is or why he was out there. Along the way, he starts to remember little details and soon remembers his name, Jason Bourne. He also realizes he lived a life on the run and may have lived in the shadows of legalities.
Not everyone in his life is happy to see him back though and one person in particular desperately trying to track him down and do him harm. The Bourne Identity might've not gotten the best rating of all the franchise films, but it's without-a-doubt, one of Matt Damon's most recognizable roles.
Children Of Men 7.9 (2006)
In 2006, Children of Men was released and told the story of a chaotic world in the year 2027. Women have been infertile for 18 years, without a known reason. Britain remains one of the only civilized areas on the planet but has also turned into a police state to manage immigrants coming in.
Theo Faron, played by Clive Owen, is a low-on-the-pole government official who is asked by his ex-wife to lead a young immigrant woman and her baby to solace before anyone finds out.
Sin City - 8.0 (2005)
Perhaps one of the most recognizable films on the list is Sin City. Directed by Frank Miller and Quentin Tarantino, this comic-book-read-turned-crime-thriller takes viewers on a ride to the dark and miserable town of Basin City.
It's there where viewers are told three different stories of three different people that each has something in common: violent corruption. Sin City is shot and told beautifully and has since turned into a franchise.
