After its streaming success, Clifford The Big Red Dog is officially in development for a sequel. Clifford came into existence in 1963 when Norman Bridwell published his first book in a line of children's classics. Originally the runt of his litter, Clifford grew to an immense size thanks to the endearing wealth of love he received from his pet owner, Emily Elizabeth. All told, Clifford and his loyal companions saunter through various escapades over the course of 80 books, 2 television series, and a feature film. Scholastic also adopted the sizeable furry canine as their official mascot.

As reported by TheWrap, Paramount officially announced that Clifford The Big Red Dog is getting a sequel, and the project's development has already begun. However, the entertainment company did not go into much further detail regarding the matter. It is unclear when or how the film will be released and if Paramount plans to follow the same hybrid release formula as the first film.

The news comes as Clifford The Big Red Dog showcased a far better-than-expected $22 million opening weekend at the box office. However, the real success came from streaming, as Clifford set new records on Paramount+ by quickly earning itself the title of the platform's most-watched original film. Given the film's streaming success and audiences' comfort level amidst the still-present pandemic, Paramount will likely follow a similar release style for its sequel to Clifford The Big Red Dog, if not releasing the title exclusively on its Paramount+ streaming platform. In the meantime, audiences can begin getting excited as the big red pup will soon be trampling back onto screens, in one way or another.
