Sylvester Stallone merges with Jim Carrey's Ace Ventura in a bizarre AI trailer for the Cliffhanger sequel. Released in 1993, the original Cliffhanger starred Stallone as a mountain climber who, months after failing to recuse his best friend's girlfriend, becomes embroiled in a botched midair heist of a U.S. Treasury plane flying through the Rocky Mountains. It has been announced that a Cliffhanger sequel from Greenland director Ric Roman Waugh was in the works with Stallone returning to reprise his role as Gabe Walker.

Shortly after Cliffhanger 2 was announced, an incredibly bizarre AI trailer for the sequel merges Stallone with Ace Ventura. The video even offers an amusing title for the sequel – "Cliffhanger 2 - Raccoon Mountain." Check out the fake trailer below:

Shared by Brian Monarch, the trailer merges Stallone with Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls' opening scene, which is a parody of Cliffhanger that finds the titular detective failing to rescue a raccoon from falling to its death.

What Will Cliffhanger 2 Actually Be About?

Though the AI trailer is an entertainingly uncanny mash-up of When Nature Calls and Cliffhanger's similar opening scenes, it's a far cry from what the upcoming legacy sequel will actually look like. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Ric Roman Waugh revealed some Cliffhanger 2 story details, including that the sequel takes place in the Italian Alps and finds Stallone's character with a daughter who's also a mountaineering climber. Similar to Top Gun: Maverick and Creed, the director's goal with Cliffhanger 2 is to carry to franchise forward to new heights.

Perhaps Cliffhanger 2 could take a page out of When Nature Calls' playbook, which was a sequel to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective that saw the detective succumb to severe depression and join a Tibetan monastery after failing to recuse the raccoon. While the Cliffhanger sequel won't be as comedic, it could find Gabe still haunted by the tragic accident that killed his best friend's girlfriend. This could be his motivation for relocating to the Italian Alps and embarking on one last rescue mission alongside his daughter before retirement, similar to Stallone's final boxing bout in Rocky Balboa.
