Konami is bringing some of its classic games to PC, as several CastlevaniaContra, and Metal Gear games are now available on GOG. Konami might not be interested in making new titles in its fan-favorite franchises (unless the rumors of the PlayStation 5 version of Silent Hill are true), but the company has no problem porting its older games to modern systems.

The Metal Gear Solid series is often associated with the PlayStation platform, but many entries have made their way into PC in the past. Metal Gear Solid: Integral, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and Metal Gear Survive have all appeared on Windows in the past. All has been quiet with the Metal Gear Solid franchise of late, with the exception of the upcoming movie.

Now, Konami is bringing some of its classic older titles to PC. According to a press release from GOG, Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance are available on the digital storefront now. It's also releasing the Konami Collector's Series: Castlevania & Contra, which is a collection of games in one package, including Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Contra, and Super C.

Metal Gear Solid 2

Screen Rant has had a chance to try out the modern port of Metal Gear Solid, which has cleaned up models and textures, but it lacks the content from the Integral version of the game. By comparison, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance is the updated version of the game that comes with a lot of additional content. It bears mentioning that the Castlevania and Contra games are also part of the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Contra Anniversary Collection, both of which are currently available on Steam.

It feels as if Konami has mostly forgotten about its classic franchises, except when it needs characters to put into its pachinko machines, or as additional costumes, like when Solid Snake appeared in Super Bomberman RNow that these games are easily available on PC, they can be experienced by fans who are interested in the history of the respective series, especially for the titles that aren't easily found on modern platforms. There might not be a Metal Gear Solid 6 any time soon, but fans can still revisit Solid Snake's early adventures on GOG.
