The teaser trailer for Netflix's A Classic Horror Story mixes pagan symbols, Satanic imagery, and mutilation of the flesh in what promises to be a thoroughly terrifying blend of Midsommar and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The Italian film comes from directors Roberto De Feo and Paolo Strippoli and stars Francesco Russo and Peppino Mazzotta.
Netflix posted the eerie teaser on YouTube, which draws viewers into an isolated cabin wherein all manner of nefarious goings-on are taking place. Mysterious rituals and violent torture are set against a soothing acoustic soundtrack, a juxtaposition that hints at the source of the movie's horror. The film streams on Netflix July 14. The streaming service tweeted of the movie, "Think the Italian Midsommar meets Texas Chain Saw Massacre," so the film's influences are no secret. Ari Aster's 2019 A24 indie found beauty and terror in the pagan rites of an isolated Swedish village, and Midsommar's deceptively idyllic setting resembles the ominous country cabin in A Classic Horror Story. The Netflix film paints plenty of straight-up gore onto the cinematic tableau with medieval torture devices that Jigsaw himself might be interested in taking a look at.
The film centers on a group of travelers who end up stranded after their RV crashes, leading them to a home occupied by a cult.
