Captain Marvel and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actor, Clark Gregg, claims that the one Marvel character he would most like to appear alongside is none other than Adam Warlock. First appearing in 2008's Iron Man, Gregg has been a constant presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, moving from the big screen to ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which is currently gearing up for its sixth season. Gregg is now returning to the movies with Captain Marvel and, along with Samuel L. Jackson, will be digitally de-aged to fit in with the film's 1990s setting.

The character of Phil Coulson is often presented as somewhat of a superhero fanboy, often unable to believe his luck as he mingles with the likes of Captain America and Ghost Rider. Interestingly, this trait isn't too far removed from Gregg himself, who has frequently expressed his unbridled geekish delight at being part of the MCU and appearing alongside characters he clearly has a long-standing interest in outside of his day job.

Ahead of the long-awaited release of Captain Marvel, Screen Rant spoke to Gregg about his time in the MCU and posed the question of which Marvel figure he wishes he could share the screen with. While Gregg's choice isn't necessarily a household name, it's a character that has already appeared in the MCU, albeit briefly. Gregg stated:

"I was always a big fan of Adam Warlock. So, I always-- My notebooks. My mom sent me my notebooks, and it's just filled with my imitation of Jim Starlin drawings of Warlock. So, that's a fantasy of mine. But I mean, I can feel it would just be greedy. Because I've gotten to kind of sit on the Helicarrier with Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff—"

Adam Warlock's first and only appearance in the MCU came in the post-credits sequence of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, in which he was introduced (still safely tucked away in his cocoon) as an artificial creation of the Sovereign race. Adam has yet to feature again in the franchise and with the firing of James Gunn, the character's future is very much unknown at this stage, although rumors persist that he could make an appearance in the forthcoming Avengers: Endgame.

Unfortunately for Gregg, it seems unlikely that Coulson will be coming into contact with Adam Warlock, at least for the foreseeable future. The character is too important to be turning up in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. right now and if GOTG2's post-credits did indeed mark the birth of Adam Warlock, he can't feature in Captain Marvel either. However, there's a possibility that both Coulson and Warlock could appear in a future Avengers movie further down the line, especially if Gregg's character ends up being a highlight of Captain Marvel. Luckily for Gregg, Coulson has already ticked a great many names off his superhero bucket list, and as the actor himself suggests, can't exactly be unhappy with his current list of Marvel allies.
