The sixth and final pack of the current Civilization 6 New Frontier Pass might introduce zombies into the game. The New Frontier Pass, the game’s version of a season pass, has released five DLC packs so far since it launched last May 2020. The packs add not only new leaders and civilizations but also new game modes, features, and more, with each one helping to enrich the already massive game even further and giving players more ways to win.

The most recent content pack added Vietnam and Kublai Khan, as well as the new Monopolies and Corporations game mode, which was originally introduced in Civilization 4. The optional game mode offers Civilization 6 players a new way to win the game by further utilizing the map’s resources to their advantage. While Kublai Khan is the leader featured in the DLC pack, who can be picked as an alternate leader for either China or Mongolia, it also added Bà Triệu as the leader of Vietnam.

The details on the sixth and final DLC pack of the New Frontier Pass were spotted on the SteamDB website by users of the CivFanatics forums. The users pointed out that achievements for the upcoming pack reveal that not only will João III and Portugal be the featured leader and civilization in the DLC, but a new game mode involving zombies will also be introduced. Some of the achievements that were spotted include one that involves controlling a certain number of zombies at the start of a turn while another asks players to destroy a zombie unit of a specific Mutation Strength. Another achievement also revealed that traps may also come into play in the new zombie game mode.

The achievements reflect some of what developer Firaxis Games has announced so far for the upcoming DLC pack, which is said to include one new leader and civilization as well as a new game mode. It’s unclear what else the new zombie game mode will include and if it’s any way connected to the battle royale-style Red Death game mode that was released last year, which also involved zombies. But with the DLC pack set to launch sometime this month, Firaxis Games should release more information soon.

Zombies are certainly a significant departure from the more realistic and historical themes of Civilization 6 and might not sit well with those that enjoy that aspect of the game. Fans will have to wait and see how Firaxis Games executes the new mode and how it will affect the game overall.
