Tom Holland nails his Spider-Man screen test with Chris Evans for Captain America: Civil War. In 2015, news broke that after years of existing in his own universe with Sony Pictures, the web-slinging hero would finally be introduced into the MCU, opening up a lot of narrative possibilities. Instead of debuting him through his own standalone movie, however, Marvel Studios opted to introduce him via the Joe and Anthony Russo ensemble film in 2016 just to see how he played with the rest of the Avengers.

Four years after Holland made his debut as Peter Parker in the franchise, he's already appeared in four more Marvel films — two of which were his solo adventures, while the other two were in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Now, he's set for another standalone movie with the currently untitled Spider-Man 3 project slated to hit theaters December 2021. As everyone waits for that, not to mention for MCU's Phase 4 to begin, fans are being nostalgic watching Holland in one of his screen tests for Civil War.

Shared on Twitter by IGN is a clip of the much-younger Holland wearing what seems to be a homemade Spider-Man suit testing his lines opposite Evans, who played Captain America in the MCU. The scene their reading was the New York-based heroes' first one-on-one encounter during the airport battle in Civil War. Watch the whole video below:

Aside from Evans, Holland also screen-tested with Robert Downey Jr. who portrayed Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU. It made sense that the Russos wanted to see how Holland performed opposite the aforementioned actors considering that not only are they Civil War's primary players, but also the franchise's top heroes. Much has been said about how Holland's athleticism played a part in him ultimately nabbing the role, but his acting skills were also significant. While he had limited screen time with Evans over the years until Captain America's Endgame retirement, the young actor worked closely with Downey as their on-screen characters developed a mentor-mentee relationship that also spilled into real life.

Now, both Evans and Downey, as well as, their respective characters are out of the MCU, Holland's Spider-Man is positioned to become one of MCU's poster characters. Despite the brief snafu that almost had Sony pull him out of the universe, he's now back for a limited time. After his third solo movie, he's confirmed for another appearance, although no word on that for now. While the current agreement between Marvel Studios and Sony isn't for long-term, they can eventually hatch a new deal so the wall-crawling hero can continue existing in the universe, interacting with other characters. Regardless of what happens to Holland and the character, however, it's still fascinating how quickly Marvel Studios was able to establish him in the MCU following his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War.
