Kirsten Dunst has joined the cast of A24's new action film titled Civil War, which is set to be written and directed by Ex-Machina's Alex Garland. Civil War is set to be the English filmmaker's fourth film following 2015's Oscar-winning Ex-Machina, 2018's Annihilation, and upcoming horror feature Men, which is currently undergoing post-production. Details regarding the plot of Civil War haven't been disclosed as of yet but it's been said that the film will be set in near-future America.

Now, it's been reported (by Variety) that Spider-Man star Kirsten Dunst has found her next project in the form of Alex Garland's action film, Civil War, alongside a cast that includes Narcos alumni Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson (Dune), and Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown). The film will be distributed by A24 with DNA Films' Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich joining as producers once again following their successful collaboration with Garland for his first three directorial ventures. Gregory Goodman (8 Mile, Captain Phillips) is also set to hop on board as co-producer.

The announcement arrives just days after Dunst recently received a Screen Actors Guild nomination for Best Actress for her performance in Jane Campion's Western drama, The Power of the Dog. As for Garland, he will be reunited with the studio that helped earn him his first Academy Award nomination for Ex-Machina and in the process established him as a director to keep an eye out for. A24 has taken the film industry by storm over the past decade with an excellent catalog of critically and universally acclaimed films with the likes of 2018's Hereditary, 2019's The Lighthouse, and 2021's Minari, to name a few. If their archives are anything to go by, Civil War could prove to be yet another unique entry into Garland's ever-growing filmography.
