Warning: Spoilers For Citadel Episodes 1-5 Below!Citadel episode 5 quickly threw away what could have been the start of a great villain redemption storyline. A blessing and a curse of Citadel season 1's lean six-episode run is that while it teased some mysteries and twists, the show didn't really have the time to invest in them. A good example would be casting doubt on Nadia's (Priyanka Chopra) loyalties, with both Kane (Richard Madden) and Osy Ikhile's Carter thinking Nadia was the mole who sold out Citadel to Manticore.

Citadel episode 5 "Time Renders Us Enemies" saw the show quickly wrap up that storyline. Not only is Nadia innocent, but she reveals the secret she's been hiding is that she had Kane's daughter in secret eight years prior. While the series may have confirmed she had nothing to do with Citadel's downfall, it could be argued the first episode proved that already, as the shadowy agency tried to kill her too. Disappointingly, the fifth episode also decided to toss out a potentially interesting villain redemption arc for Roland Møller's Anders.

Citadel Wasted A Potential Anders Heel-Face Turn

Anders and his twin brother Davik both work for Manticore, with the latter being more of the muscle. In the past, Anders fell in love with a Citadel agent named Celeste (Ashleigh Cummings), who went undercover as a woman called Brielle. In the present day, Anders is tasked with torturing Stanley Tucci's Orlick only for the latter to reveal that "Brielle" is still alive - and now married to Mason/Kyle. Just about the only redeeming aspect of Anders that viewers witnessed was his genuine love for Brielle, and Orlick offered to bring Anders to her if the henchman helped him escape.

This appeared to be setting up a subplot where Anders would be forced to betray both Manticore AND his twin and work with Bernard. Instead, he's quickly shot dead in Citadel season 1 episode 5 by Lesley Manville's Dahlia, squandering the potential of this subplot. "Brielle" later became Abby following a memory wipe procedure and married Kane, with the two having a daughter. Not only was Anders willing to risk his life just to see her again, Abby would have absolutely no idea who he was. This was a real chance to create an intriguing heel-face turn that the showrunners - probably due to lack of time - decided not to take.

Davik Can Still Avenge His Brother

Davik is considerably the meaner of the two brothers on Citadel and is understandably devastated upon hearing of Anders' death. Dahlia lies and claims Orlick killed Anders, but it feels like a safe bet Davik will learn the truth at some point. Given the viciousness Davik has displayed on Citadel thus far it's doubtful he'll turn to the side of good, but Dahlia killing his brother isn't something he's going to forgive either. In attempting to avenge his brother, Davik just might help foil Manticore's schemes after all.
