Warning: Major Spoilers Below For Citadel Episodes 1-3!Citadel appears to be setting up Priyanka Chopra's Nadia as the one who betrayed the titular spy group, but is that really the case? Amazon's Citadel hasn't been afraid to wear its franchise aspirations on its sleeve. Not only is the blockbuster spy thriller the second most expensive TV series ever produced, but it also has multiple spinoffs in the works such as Citadel: India. Citadel cast some big names too, with Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden playing main characters Nadia and Mason, respectively.

In hopes of creating its own shared spy universe, Citadel is paying homage to some of the biggest movies and shows from the genre's past. The Bond nods are the most obvious, but there are riffs on The Bourne Identity, Tenet and many more. It obviously wouldn't be an espionage thriller without some lingering mysteries and unanswered questions, and Citadel episode 3 "Infinite Shadows" appears to be casting doubt on Nadia's trustworthiness.

Citadel Episode 3 Hints That Nadia Turned On The Agency

The final scenes of Citadel episode 3 see Madden's Mason/Kyle going on an undercover mission in Morocco to speak with crime boss Basto (Sen Monro). During the chat, the conversation turns to Mason's past relationship with Nadia, who Basto claims is the one who both "sold" him and Citadel out to Manticore. Nadia later denies this when confronted by Kyle, but it's clear she's not being forthcoming about something. Earlier in the episode, she's also seen talking to a mysterious character via text. This character appears to be based in Valencia, and Nadia becomes visibly emotional when the conversation turns to a mystery item that's waiting for her return.

Nadia Being A Mole Doesn't Make Sense... Yet

While Citadel might be casting suspicion on Nadia, her being a mole makes little sense. The opening episode saw her and Mason both targeted for assassination by Citadel villains Manticore, and it's clear from her responses that she's never even heard of the organization before. When questioned by Kyle, she also argues that if she was in league with Manticore, not only would she not be working to save a fellow agent imprisoned at one of their Black Sites, she would have just killed Kyle too.

Maybe future episodes could offer a plausible explanation for Nadia either being a mole or having unknowingly aided Manticore in destroying Citadel. That said, it's more likely that Nadia's secret communications will reveal she was working with another agency outside of Citadel, or that she has a personal connection to the mystery texter. There's still a big question mark surrounding who betrayed Citadel to Manticore, but while the reveal will no doubt come as a shock when it arrives, pointing the finger at Nadia feels like a big red herring.
